I'm having a bit of an "Ah Fuck" moment. I've heard back from 5 of the 6 universities I applied to so far. I've already ruled one out, but that leaves 4. They've ALL given me interview dates, and although thankfully they're all on different days, they're also ALL within the next week or two. Which, as you know, is the time when I'll be in London helping my brother and dad move out, or back here, moving us to our new place. In other words, taking days out to go to these interviews is gonna be downright impossible. All I can think to do is call each of them up and try to arrange different dates. But it's a pain... why must everything always happen all at once? ::Growl::
Yesterday was pretty good. We were invited over to see the new house again and to chat with the current owners. It sure is a big house... five bedrooms! Kinda crazy when you think that only my mom and I will be living there... and my brother perhaps occasionally. But much of the year, if my brother and I both go off to Uni, my mom will be there by herself in a huge 5-bedroom house o.o It's crazy!! But it IS a nice house... and best of all, it's right in the heart of a VERY English little village, which is just what my mom has wanted, to get as far from London city life as possible. There's virtually no street-lighting in the village, which means very little light pollution - you can actually see the stars at night! Amazing! And the village church is absolutely beautiful. It really is the epitome of a country village, complete with local farm shop, village hall, and lots and lots of open fields and farmland ^^; Moo.
So, that was nice. Seeing the village, I think it's the right choice, even if the house is a little big for us ^^; Sooo... after that, we came home and I went out to get Chinese for us. God, I swear I'm a walking hazard x.o I can't count the number of times I tripped, or nearly tripped, or bumped into something or someone on that 3 minute walk to the Chinese place. Clumsy and klutzy doesn't even begin to describe me. I am forever tripping over my owntails feet. Just a forewarning - if you ever spend the day with me, prepare to hear an awful lot of "sorry!" "whoops!" "ack!" "oww!" and so on... n.n; That's just the way it is with me.
Ooo! I was reading New Scientist the other day (brilliant mag, that, bringing science and technology information to the masses!), and lately there's been a lot of talk about the pioneering new technology that allows amputees to receive working limbs that can actually feel! That is to say, they'll actually feel a sensation in their new limb, as if it were their own. It allows them to move the artificial limb just by thinking about it, naturally. It's done by rewiring nerves and such, in the chest in this one example to provide sensation to a new hand. I don't recall the exact intricacies of the procedure, but I do recall thinking "how COOL!".
... and then of course it got me to thinking. If they're moving towards being able to do that, how long before this is available on the commercial market? You know what I'm thinking here... I've had this conversation with at least a couple of people on my friends list. How long before instead of only being able to replace sensation of limbs that once existed, they can apply this technology to wire new extensions to the human body. People would do it. There are already body modification fans who go as far as to have surgery to sharpen their fangs/implant fangs, implant horns on their head, or even create a cat-like cleft in the upper lip, and whiskers through the cheeks (although the guy who had the cat mouth done has severe problems with eating, due to his lip n.n;). I'm sure that once the technology is available for even greater modifications, it won't be long before we see people go 'all the way' to have a real working tail, or wings.
I'm not sure if I'm fascinated by the prospect or terrified. Maybe a little of both. But it's certainly food for thought.
Finally, before I close this, I'd like to share this with you. A comment that was left on my Valentine LJ post, from someone too cowardly to leave any contact details or more of a name than 'Sam'. But here it is:
You disgust me in every single way.
He's a cartoon character that hops on robots' heads, not some YAOI!!!! ^_____^ KAWA11 shit.

Well there we have it, folks. A word of warning. Whilst most of us save our genuine disgust for all the truly despicable acts of injustice in the world, people like 'Sam' are upset by expressions of fandom that don't fit in with his/her concept of how fandom should be expressed. I dread to think what will happen when he/she steps outside that cosy little bubble and realizes that OH NOEZ!! there's a whole WORLD out there of people who are... gasp! ... not ALL the same! They've got a real shock coming :P
And on that note, I'm out! ::Whoosh::

Date: 2007-02-16 04:52 pm (UTC)Best of luck to you on those interviews! You'll bring the house down! Or the University, as the case may be.
And despite the fact that it would cost millions, I would totally spring for a removable tail. It'd be fun! ^__^

Date: 2007-02-16 07:32 pm (UTC)Sega didn't say anything about Sonic's orientation. I think Sonic's bisexual, myself. :P

Date: 2007-02-16 07:38 pm (UTC)Actually, it's kinda sad that 'Sam' only sees Sonic as a 'cartoon character than hops on robots' heads'. I mean, might as well have Sonic just be... I dunno... a flying hammer or something if the entirety of his depth is that he smashes up 'bots >.>

Date: 2007-02-16 09:22 pm (UTC)I had some girl snark my Sontails fanfic a loooong while back. She said something along the lines of the person who commented you. Ah, well. Nothing we can do if they can't keep up with the times. :P Funniest thing ever though was that this girl thought I was a guy when my profile clearly stated otherwise. XD
*yanks Sonic from Amy before she makes him smash robots up*

Date: 2007-02-17 06:26 am (UTC)I have no issue with diversity or multiculturalism. If I did, living in New York would probably be a bad idea, haha. It's just that basing your life around a video game character doesn't fall under "just being different"; the extent of your dedication falls extremely outside societal norms and is usually indicitive of psychological issues.
Hobbies are great, I loved Sonic the Hedgehog when I was a child (got a Sega Genesis for my sixth birthday), but sometimes you need to move on. College can be the best years of your life, but you have to live life first. Escapism isn't not healthy; the world is a scary place, but it can also be so beautiful.
I'd be interested in carrying this conversation further, just please don't subscribe me to any shemale porn lists.

Date: 2007-02-17 09:07 am (UTC)"You misunderstood me. I'm commenting on how you believe that Sonic the Hedgehog is a homosexual character to fantasize and dream about. He's not, he's a video game character meant for children. The issue of his "official orientation" is a nonissue because he's meant to be asexual; discussing Sonic and Tails having a gay love affair is no better than writing about Mario going down on Luigi." - That last part of the sentence really made me laugh, so I'll just pay attention to the first parts. Meant to be asexual? He's meant for children? Flyboy BELIEVES Sonic is a homosexual character to dream about? I know plenty upon plenty of people who are not children who enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog and have no sexual interest in him. Why? Because they're nerds! Simple as that and needs no further explanation. It really doesn't matter who it's meant for, just who enjoys it. "Meant to be asexual" is just dumb, my brain has trouble processing everything you typed here, because it's just on such a low level that I don't want to think about it for fear of degrading to your level. It doesn't matter what he's MEANT for, is there really a meaning for him to serve? He's a damn character originally made for video games and went into other things, he doesn't have a specific purpose that he must serve in the world and ULTIMATE JUSTICE. People can do and think whatever they want with him, there is no rulebook saying "you're doing it wrong". Flyboy believing this character is a homosexual just simply proves you don't know him. He does not, it's really... that simple. In fact, it was stated before he thought he was bisexual, for the record! But that's not the point, Flyboy doesn't bark at anyone and tell them they're wrong when someone says "this is how I think Sonic would be if he was real," or when they write a straight fanfiction of him, or anything else, as it's just a fake universe made for the personal entertainment of the author and anyone else who just so happens to find it interesting. If he BELIEVED Sonic was a homosexual and everyone else was wrong, he'd spend day and night hunting up straight and bisexual fanfiction and flaming the author with e-mails/etc. and post it on his LJ with stuff like, "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS STORY HAS SONIC BEING STRAIGHT (link here)." Does he do that? Well, I'm on his friends' list, so I can see his private posts, I can vouch he sure as hell doesn't.
The last comment was just random slander to throw a last-minute insult and pretty much proves you're a total jackass.

I think I sort of know what article you're talking about, tho mine could be outdated. XD;; Now that you mention it, that'd be a little scary... cool, but scary depending on who's gonna do it. XD;;
