NOOOOOOOOO!!

Hey guys, just to let you know I might not be around for a while again x.x My computer somehow got a virus and DIED. That is, it boots up about halfway with weird patterns on the screen, then it starts flashing random letters across the screen, then the monitor turns off as if the computer is switched off. I managed to get in to Safe Mode and tried to do a system restore from a few days' ago safepoint (hard to even see what I'm doing with neon letters flashing all across the screen x.x) but it didn't help, of course :\ Called up Mesh... the guy said my computer is irretrievably dead. I had about 100GB of stuff on there. No fucking kidding. I didn't realize that backing stuff up onto another internal drive was useless; the virus damaged ALL the disk drives. I am SO pissed off right now, and more than that, I'm goddamn upset. EVERYTHING was on there. ALL my music, ALL the pictures and art I've collected over 8+ years, my whole webpage, thousands of dollars worth of software, and a hell of a lot more. I dunno how I'm ever gonna start all over again. Guh. IDIOT me for not backing up my PC. I'm on my mom's computer now; I'll still be able to check email from here, I guess. But... guh... I'm such an IDIOT. Argh. Mesh guy says all I can do is reformat the drive, but of course I'll lose everything. So, not only is it dead, I'M the one who's gonna have to kill it ;_; I'M SORRY COSMO!! ... ahem. XD; Well, distraught as I am, I guess I still have a sense of humor >.> ... -ish.

Christ almighty, that's one hell of a virus ;_; I guess that means there's no way to try and put important files onto CDs, DVDs, or USB drives? Usually a virus only infects certain types of files and drivers, so a lot of data, such as media, can often be ok. I also know there's companies that work with data recovery, so it may be possible to contact one of them? I dunno =/

I know it sucks, freaking terribly, but I bet you're able to get most of the stuff back that you need in a relatively short time. It'll be ok ^^;;

Every time I've had to reformat I've always had one nice thought among all the terrible ones. "Well, at least I'll have a computer free of random crap that's completely organized again" :P

Ouch, that's not fair. It's a shame that people resort to creating these parasites for their own self-amusement. I hope you can get everything fixed up, good luck Jai :(

I had to do that on my computer too.. and I still don't have half of what I had on my original computer. :( [how that's suppose to make you feel better, I don't know. XD]

I'm so sorry, Jai. But don't kick yourself over it, there was nothing you could do to see it coming or prevent it. These things just... happen.

If you need replacement software, since technically, you still own that stuff you lost, I'll be glad to send it to you. I've got a ton of stuff, from Pinnacle Studio to Flash 8 to Photoshop to Microsoft Office, even. I think I speak for most of the people on here when I say that we're willing to help in any way we can.

Sphix - that would be amazing if you could get some of that software to me. Specifically (if you have them):

Photoshop CS2 (or any other recent edition)
Flash 8 (if you have the whole package that has Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver etc, that'd be awesome, but if not, Flash is the main one I need)
Office (specifically Word and Frontpage 2000 or 2002 - I can't update Sontails.com without Frontpage, since it uses Frontpage extentions)

... I can't think of anything else, but if you could get any of those to me I'd be eternally in your debt :\

I'm pretty sure I have every one of those (including the package for Flash), and I might even be able to get you Illustrator CS2, as well... UPGRADE! :D

Really? ^^ That would be UBER-neat... would you mail them? If you're copying them onto CDs, I can pay you for the discs and the postage... so, how would we work this? And thanks for offering to get those for me ^__^ I'm VERY grateful.

I'll get the discs together, and don't worry about postage or anything like that. You've got too much on your plate as it is, and the cost is neglegible. I'll have the CDs ready in a couple days, and I'll let you know when I'm ready to ship! (Sounds like you just won an auction on eBay, huh?)
