I know I said I really need to lay off the alcohol for a while, but Miles, Jei and I ALL really want to try this. It sounds SO good:

Roasted Toasted Almond

The Roasted Toasted Almond (or Burnt Almond ) is roasted by adding vodka to a Toasted Almond. Both are relaxing sippers with a nice almond-coffee flavoring and are really nice on chilly fall evenings by the fire.

Ingredients:

    * 1 oz vodka
    * 1 oz coffee liqueur
    * 1 oz Amaretto
    * milk or cream

Preparation:

   1. Build the vodka and liqueurs in an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.
   2. Fill with milk or cream.
   3. Shake by placing a mixing tin over the glass and giving it one or two good shakes.

God, it just sounds so yummy... and comforting. Perfect for a winter's eve. Unfortunately (fortunately?) we are still totally broke right now, so buying a bottle each of Smirnoff, Disoronno and Kahlua is going to be impossible for a while. But maybe it's something we could try around Christmastime! You know, along with Horchata... we really wanna try making that too. Inspired by Vampire Weekend of course (; *Sings*

In December, drinking horchata
I'd look psychotic in a balaclava
Winter's cold is too much to handle
Pincher crabs that pinch at your sandals

Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten!
Chairs to sit and sidewalks to walk on
Oh you had it, but oh no, you lost it
Looking back you shouldn't have fought it

I love the instrumental selection in this song. It's all clinky and chimey and not the usual. Jei heard it a lot on the radio around this time last year when she was in London for two weeks doing work experience at Millennium FX. When she got home, we scoured BBC Radio's playlist and found it ♥

In other important news, I finally manned up and called my mum. One of us had to break the silence. It was coming up on a full month! Well, she SORTA did first by sending me a bunch of mail from the house with a kinda passive-aggressive note saying she was sending it on to me because she didn't know when she would see me next x.o Gee, I wonder why? But anyway, bygones be bygones. I called and chatted for a while. We didn't mention the whole weight issue, but I'm sure it'll come up again before I go home for Xmas. I did find out, though, that her job is making a 60% cost cut, so she's been looking for other work just in case. I highly doubt she'll be made redundant because she's very good at her job and one of the most experienced and professional people they have, but I can't blame her for being scared. I also found out that she visited my Great Aunt Ivy, the last remaining of my late Grandma's siblings and generation. She's 97 and apparently has advanced dementia. Very sad. 97 is a grand old age, but I have to wonder if life is worth hanging on to when you're that confused and afraid and have no idea where you are or who anyone is. I can only imagine it would be Hell.

I'm gonna try to get through this winter the best I can. I'm gonna try to help Miles get hold of some of the things he wants, to the best of my ability, because if he's somewhat content we'll all be a lot happier :P Also because I'm kind of curious to see if we CAN get hold of all the things on his eclectic little checklist.

Time for me to man up and stop feeling like a victim. I'll start by kicking these winter blues in the butt. Miles better work with me on this because frankly I'm done with just dealing with his attitude. I know I made a lot of mistakes with him in the past, didn't respect him, forced my ideals on him and pushed him back. But I'm not going to be forced into a chokehold just because he's in a bad mood and can't decide if he wants to kill me, himself, or random people on the street. Get a grip, guy. I always admired the control and self-restraint he had. Where did that go? Yeah, I'll grant him that he's not used to the crazy electrical storm in my brain every winter, but he's gonna have to just deal with it. I'll do what I can for us both and for Jei so she doesn't have to suffer me too much either, but it's gotta be a team effort, like it or not, or everything's just gonna fall apart. Maybe he thinks that's what he wants because he's pissed and confused right now, but I doubt it really. I'm sure he'll be back to normal soon because I actually have faith in him, stupid me ♥

Now I actually feel a bit better. Cathartic and somewhat optimistic post was cathartic and somewhat optimistic. (:

SAD sucks. My aunt can't even work in the winter because of it. Try those lamps that mimic the sun.
Cut Miles a bit of a break, hon. Give him time.

I was supposed to get my SAD light from my mum when she was gonna visit, but that never happened :P Hopefully I can pick it up at Christmas.

I'm happy to cut Miles some slack if he's willing to at least TRY to get along with everyone. Usually he gets along with Jei fine. But I won't go easy on him if he starts threatening Jei like he did last night. That's one thing he is NOT allowed to do. And I swear if he ever tries to really hurt her... She puts up with him being rough with her a bit because she's tough and she knows he can be a brat. But any SERIOUS intent of harm? He is going down in flames, I swear.

That's fair, isn't it? Everyone has to make an effort or this thing is never going to work.

He might still be adjusting. It's tough being trapped in a body that isn't right. Good luck to both of you.

I get that, I really do. Which is why I'm more than happy to help him try to get as many things as possible that remind him of home, and I've forgiven him for a lot of shit. But we have to compromise somewhere. I think if we do, we'll be okay. When he's not in his crazy head, he's actually pretty reasonable. It's just his unreasonable moods that worry me >_> But thanks. I believe we can work it out.

Thanks! I do feel better that I at least called her and got that out of the way. Takes a bit of the guilt off my back ^^;

SAD sucks, but at least I seem to have good days as well as bad ones :P My life's not a black hole of despair (yet) :P

Journal

Of the items you mentioned Miles wanted, I would go for the leather-bound journal and the quill (and some pots of ink) first. Then it gives Miles somewhere he can express his feelings and vent a bit, without causing you harm or getting you blind drunk (and maybe could help you to understand him more/get on with him better?) :)

I can definitely see the appeal of the journal and quill though... I can imagine myself sitting in a gloomy corner scratching away in a dark green journal with thick, crisp, slightly off-white pages.

Couldn't find anything similar to that on the internet, and don't even know if that is what Miles is after, but I did find this: http://www.allthingsgreen.net/marketplace/handmade-leather-journal-notebook-fair-trade-recycled-eco-friendly-p-6365.html?_$ja=tsid:3154|kw:6365|cgn:Paper%20High

I haven't ever ordered one of those before, but the two comments are positive, it contains handmade paper and is available in different sizes.

Hope this helps (but probably doesn't!) :D

Also this is quite nice: http://www.allthingsgreen.net/marketplace/handmade-rustic-leather-journal-natural-and-fairtrade-p-7048.html

I just realised I probably seem like the internet equivalent of one of those shifty-looking guys who springs out of the shadows wearing a floor-length trench coat which opens up to reveal row upon row of watches or something, so I won't spam you with any more links XD

I'll just go back into my corner now :)

It doesn't need to be 'eco-friendly' (lord knows Miles doesn't care), but it certainly eases my conscience XD Those ARE nice. Thanks for the links (:

I think what Miles REALLY wants is something a bit more genuinely antique, but he may have to settle, even if just on account of price >_>;

You and your mom, my god. The pictures you paint of that woman are colorful. Sometimes she's at least worthy of respect, other times she acts like everymom. Sometimes she's awful and her priorities are askew or downright upside down. I wish you'd just man up and kick her in the vag when she starts about your weight.

Also, Smirnoff is nasty, it tastes and feels like tossing gasoline. Stolichnaya is a lot smoother on your throat. (Especially on the rocks, or in Russian Coffee, which oddly looks a lot like the recipe you posted o.O just uses hot coffee as a base.)

She's a human being. She has her flaws, and a couple of things about her are downright neurotic. But she's a good person when she's not obsessing over certain things ^^; I figured that hanging up on her and not speaking to her for three weeks last time she started on my weight was enough of a slap, so I'm trying to let it go now.

I don't think I've seen Stolichnaya in the shops. Is it bad that the more a spirit tastes like gasoline/pure ethanol, the more I wanna knock it back straight? >>;; Buuuut that Russian Coffee drink sounds godly. We'll have to try it. We were actually looking for an alcoholic drink that utilises HOT coffee rather than chilled/iced ♥

I see what you're saying. As long as you're happy I'm happy.

The tastes are similar, Stoli's just less.... burny than Smirnoff.
As odd as this sounds.. I had 4 doubleshots of Smirnoff one day and 4 of Stoli the next, the hangover was less intense from Stolichnaya (with the same amount of staggering around, laughing at things that aren't funny and wild sex coming from each.)

It's good that you managed to speak to your mother again, even if her obsession with your weight isn't going anywhere.

Программа для раскрутки групп и профилей В контакте - Viking Botovod
