I really overdid the alcohol on Saturday night. It was one of those things where I really had no idea how much I'd had to drink until after the event. I guess it was around a straight litre of 45% alc exported vodka. I thought I was fine, perfectly coherent, chatting and having fun online... sure, my inhibitions were shot, but I was having fun. Stayed up 'til around 10:30am, which is when Jei woke up, then as soon as I got up from my chair - FWOOMP. Totally paraplegic. Slept most of the day on the floor. An attractive sight? No. An embarrassment? Yeah. I keep telling myself I won't drink so much any more. I know I have a problem. I should drink to have fun and loosen up, not to get totally shit-faced and then spend the next day wishing for death because I felt so fucking awful. One of these days I'll wind up worse than just dehydrated and sick. I am definitely a binge drinker. It is not good. I don't want to brand myself an alcoholic, because that would mean never allowing myself to drink EVER. But if I can't control myself, I wonder what choices are left to me?

Date: 2010-11-15 03:18 pm (UTC)All joking aside though, despite the fact I've never got drunk myself (I really can't stand the taste of most alcoholic drinks), a member of my family has had to go into hospital from drinking way too much before. Suppose it's part of the reason I tend to only really have one, maybe two, sort of alcopop (yes, really -_-) drinks then stay on soft drinks the rest of the night.
Suppose I'm slightly lucky that noisy pubs/clubs etc. tend to give me killer headaches so I can't stay in them too long. Student party life hasn't got to me yet.
... yet. x.@

Date: 2010-11-15 03:23 pm (UTC)You'd think I would be scared off from overdrinking after my neighbour committed suicide as a direct result of drinking... But apparently I'm an idiot.

Date: 2010-11-15 03:35 pm (UTC)That certainly would have scared me. Then again, I got scared by all those videos they used to show my class in school where people would end up getting pissed, doing stupid things like having unprotected sex and ending up pregnant or with STDs. I think I just scare too easily. Ungh. x_x
I'm pretty sure there's help around somewhere. Have a good look on the web, or maybe see if there's a forum around for this sort of thing. Knowing you're not alone in things can sometimes help, and then you can discuss different experiences with it and find good tips to prevent things getting out of hand.
Either way, hope things turn out okay for you with this.

Date: 2010-11-15 04:16 pm (UTC)I probably should keep some crackers at hand. I tend to try to sober up by nibbling, but if I eat first that might help too.
Thanks for all the advice! (:

Date: 2010-11-15 05:00 pm (UTC)If not, I suppose you'll just have to find a way to deal with this.
Don't they just try to limit your intake first, though? I remember when the Quran was first being revealed and the Arabs strongly associated the consumption of alcoholic drinks with socializing, so Allah did not forbid it all at once, as that would be too difficult and sudden a change for the Arabs to make, so he forbid it in stages, first forbidding anyone to come to prayer while intoxicated, then revealing that while alcohol had some good and bad effects for the people, the bad outweighed the good... before finally Muslims were ordered to abstain from intoxicants.
/obligatory religion lesson
xD;;;
Good luck! This habit's rather nasty and it certainly takes its toll on your body. ^^;;
I... haven't actually had much contact with alcohol at all, outside of topical Xylocaine and rubbing alcohol for wounds. Never sipped a drop of a drink (not that that's such a great feat considering my faith and where I live and all), so... ^^;
I've only ever encountered drunk folks in Morocco!
Still, I wish you the best of luck, buddy, and I hope it will be made easy (or, well, as easy as it gets). ♥

Date: 2010-11-15 05:13 pm (UTC)Aw, I'd hate to annoy someone by talking too much about my religion, so it means a lot when you tell me stuff like that!
In that case, I'll continue to bring it up when relevant (and when it's easy enough for me to keep things short, since some of these things are a science all their own and could easily fill volumes xD;; ).
