My job is going pretty well. It's quite interesting, getting to do basic administration, password and PIN control, remote access, permissions troubleshooting etc. It did make me briefly wonder about pursuing network/database administration at a higher level as a career option, but I think I might get bored after a while, when the novelty wears off. I do like geeky stuff, but I also like variety and being creative, and I've also noticed that the central admin team seem to mostly end up as grumpy sods as a result of all the pressure on them and all the people pestering them all day XD; Nevertheless, I'm still kind of in "Ooo!" mode after learning how to Tivoli onto a client's computer and troubleshoot their problems remotely n.n; Simple things...

I was thinking also that it might be a good idea to really think about a career path that doesn't involve computers. So far, all of my big ideas have been computer-related, and for the longest time I've really wanted to take up web-design and/or 3D animation. But at the end of the day, I think perhaps that would be overkill, even for me. I mean, I spend my LIFE on the computer. Right now, I'm on the computer for eight hours at work, and then at least another four in the evening at home. That's 12 hours per day (eh, mathematical genius, eh EH?), and even more at weekends, which is... perhaps a little excessive. Even for me.

There's so much I want to do! And the irony is that now that I have the money, I don't have the time :P But that's alright. I'll find the time.

One thing I really want to do is get my bi-plane licence. I have to rack up at least 40 hours of flying (or was it 45?) to even get a basic licence. I flew at Redhill before, but obviously that's out of my range now. There are airfields around here too, but most of the local emphasis is on helicopters. Which is, I suppose, only natural... given that Europe's largest helicopter museum is situated here :P

Another thing is work on Sontails.com. I'm seriously ASHAMED of how bad the layout is. I know I can do so much better now, especially since I can actively script rollover buttons and use CSS. And anything I don't know I can easily look up.

Also, I've been meaning to get a Nintendo Wii forever. And now that Smash Bros is looking so cool, I neeeeed one. I'd also like to get SatSR and M&SatOG. And Twilight Princess. And... well... lots of stuff :P Not a priority, I suppose... but still.

I also want to get this t-shirt and this wall clock. Geeky things indeed, from geeky websites (or perhaps just dorky ^^;), but I want ;_;

Oh OH!! Jei just showed me a model bi-plane from NatGeo's catalog that looks REALLY cool and she's maybe gonna get it for me for Xmas o.o Isn't it nifty? I love how vintage bi-planes look. I like modern jet-fighters too, especially when they can pull off intricate aerial maneuvers (also I love barrel rolls and I don't know why XD "Do a barrel roll!"), but they don't make me shiver and make my hairs prickle like bi-planes do. I guess I just have a bit of a fetish ^^;

Aw crud, and I also have stuff to do for SSMB's Xmas festivities... I'm running another small event, plus I have to re-- oh yeah. I have to keep hush about SSMB events D: But they'll be great. Believe me :)

Well, I'd better get to bed now. Sorry for the "tl;dr", but I did say I'd post more later :P

I think it would be really cool if you got into something other than computers! I mean you're great with computers... but I could see you doing so many other things! It would be awesome if you became a biplane instructor... ;_; I dunno how realistic that is... anyway, I think you should explore all your options... n.n

I don't think I'd be able to make a living as an instructor... and I'm not sure I'd want to teach other people to fly. I think I'd prefer to keep flying as a personal hobby and something I'd do for leisure in my free time (assuming I get any XD). But yeah, gotta explore all options! n.n

"Alright, already! I'm working on it! ;_;" XD
Of course, all this demand for a Sontails.com revamp can only be a good thing, right?

Heh, cool stuff. I wouldn't mind having a T-Equalizer myself or the clock (or both ^^). Anyway, glad to hear all is well for you, Jai. :)

Yes, demand is definitely a good thing! ^^ I just need some TIME now to actually work on it :P

So how much interest do you have in helicopters?

At least you have some talents that can help you in your life. People say I'm good with computers and cars, but in reality I can barely understand any of the controls in Photoshop, Frontpage etc. and I still have to ask plenty of questions regarding both computers and cars.

I have some talent with playing guitar as well but my interest in that has waned somewhat throughout the year. And if I don't play, I'll have to find another way to justify the expensive guitar class fees.

That's a very cool clock. Even though I can't see how it looks like one...

I think helicopters are cool, but they don't fascinate me the same way that WWI/WWII fighter planes do.

Being good at/with something doesn't mean knowking everything about it. It just means having a knack for it and being able to learn. If you have questions to ask, that's a good thing, because it means you'll be able to expand your knowledge and broaden your expertise :)

I could definitely put something like that clock up ^.^ Thinkgeek always has to niftiest things. I have a linux kernel map on my wall and a shirt with a caffeine molecule from them. If you ever want a hand with your site, my resources are at your disposal! My advice for the Wii is to wear the strap. Two of my friends have already thrown their controllers from overexcitement. Zelda all the way ^.^

Those sound like cool items also. I love geeky stuff. I have a binary watch and it always ends up as a talking point whenever anyone sees it.

Thanks for the offer for help on the site :) I think I'll be able to manage fine, but thanks anyhow.

I like this one's: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/59e0/

:)

Now we know for sure that our team will support almost all UK offices of FS on operational (?) level for some months. Win+AD, networking, *nix or whatever. We do not have full clear view on it at the moment..
Just... studing.
I'll try to write about all of it this saturday/sunday.

I was teaching our group Unix/Linux basics for 2.5 days, 'cause of that teacher had qualification that was much less than mine :). I was additionaly paid for it and I was asked to read another advanced Unix/Linux cource for my teammates and for future teams FS is gouing to hire in next few months.

Well... 4-5 of us will go to UK 7-20th of Decemeber. No, I will not be with them ((, but I'll have another chance ))

Good luck!

Ah, binary stuff :) Cool... I have a binary watch which I love to death (I've had to replace the strap twice from wearing it all the time).

Sounds like you're a little more techy than me, since I've never actually studied any tech stuff, nor do I have any computing-related qualifications, and I've never had a tech-related job before. I just love computers and so I wound up there and I'm just learning as I go along :P

Wow!... Now I'll be dreaming of them.... mmmmm.. )))
May be I'll try to order it.

I was working for ISP company (which was also PSTN company) for >2.5 years. I'm very intrested in IT technologies and area of my interests includes Linux/Unix, networking (Cisco) and VoIP. Like you I have no technical education, only self-education.
