Get your own valentinr

I'd be honored if any of you leave me a Valentine. I promise Jei won't eat you. It's just for fun ^^

So, yes, Valentines! In two weeks o.o Wow. I do wish Valentine's Day wasn't so commercial and tacky... I always feel so bad when I don't have enough money for Valentine's Day gifts, but really it shouldn't be about spending money, it should be about spending time on the person you love. Or the people you love. Sure, Valentine's Day is supposed to be about romance, but I think it can be about friendship and platonic love too. No one should be left out on a day that's supposed to be about love! There's so much love out there, of different kinds... not just between lovers, but between family members and friends and those that we have special bonds with in various different ways.

So yeah. Valentine's Day. Two weeks! But really, in the end it's just a day. Love isn't suddenly stronger or more important on that day, but maybe it's good to at least be reminded of who we hold dear to us, eh?

And yes, this post was HORRIBLY horrendously mushy :\ I'm sorry.

To be honest, I find Thanksgiving here in the U.S. a better time to connect with my family than I do on Valentine's Day. I just find it to be pretty overrated myself. It does serve as a good reminder but I've lost my appeal for this day years ago

::Nods:: Well, us Brits don't really have a general "be thankful for what we have" holiday like Thanksgiving... but I tend to think of all holidays (Xmas, Easter, Valentines...) as a good reminder of the importance of family and friends ^_^

I hear ya, and like I said it does serve as a reminder. The difference with this holiday though I don't spend the day with all the members of my family like I do on Easter and Christmas. I don't get to see my sisters who are in college and there's still school. Guess it just depends on how you choose to view it ^^

Holidays in which school are not cancelled for suck. Halloween kind of gets the ass-end of the stick, since it happens on Sunday, so you can't stay up, because school's tomorrow.

I've always loved the appearance and sound of Russian that I've seen/heard... it's definitely a language I'd love to learn if I had enough patience. :)

I hear ya about Valentine's day in general. I guess the whole romance thing has gotten out of control, which has led to lots of people calling it 'sad day' and dressing all emo for it (I know a few here, at least). There's more that just don't like the holiday, though, cause it reminds others that they're alone. Meh...I can understand that, but it's just a holiday, same as any other day. If it were more about caring in general then I imagine everyone would enjoy it more? I dunno ^^;
