Rant time!
Dec. 23rd, 2006 12:37 amKnow what really peeves me at this time of year? Train strikes timed to coincide with Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and/or New year's Eve. I find it utterly despicable that this happens every year! Naturally, they choose the busiest days/nights of the year... but what really gets me is the UTTER selfishness of these strikes.
Firstly, you have a dispute with your management... so you take it out on your customers? The people riding the goddamn trains aren't the ones responsible for your pay or working conditions! Completely and indisputably selfish to ruin thousands of people's Christmas and/or New Year just because you've got the hump with management. Because of strikes, some people will find it very hard - or even impossible - to travel on those dates. Especially those living in remote places with limited alternative transportation. And not everyone drives/can afford a cab.
Secondly, your pay isn't that bad. You get paid more pro-rata than teachers or nurses do. >.>
Thirdly (and the one that boggles me the most), you are putting LIVES in danger! People take the train at Christmas/New Year to AVOID DRIVING when they've had a drink or two (or ten). If they can't take the train... well, some will call cabs, walk, etc (and they shouldn't have to), but some people aren't gonna think about it and they'll drive. And even those who haven't been drinking could easily be VERY tired after partying all night... being on the roads is dangerous for them too, as well as for anyone who gets in their way!
Do your pay and working conditions matter SO much that you're willing to do that to several THOUSAND innocent people at what's supposed to be a time of peace and celebration? Anyone who willfully takes part in these strikes... you make me sick >/
Edit: They're striking over Christmas Bonuses. Christmas Bonuses!!

Date: 2006-12-23 02:33 am (UTC)Good Lord. :/
Most strikes are about money. :/
They wanna complain about Christmas Bonuses? Tell them to go work for the post office out here. My dad works there and he DOESN'T even get a bonus. One year, they gave him five cent stamps. Some bonus.
These people need to feel lucky that they are getting something. Selfish people. :/
