flyboy_foxSince a lot of people seem a little surprised at how cool I've been about the whole Something Awful palaver, and mostly for the sake of anyone from said 'site, I decided to write up briefly exactly why I'm not bothered, including pointing out a few fallacies in the latest posts to that thread.
Firstly, the entire tone was set immediately. As soon as I saw "Sonic porn" I just laughed. I'd love to challenge them to find ONE reference to Sonic porn in my livejournal. I mean, aside from the "DO NOT WANT" variety XD I mean, it's obvious these guys haven't _actually_ read my LJ beyond one or two posts. All those references to "Sonic ****ing Tails" and dom-sub and ****ing to pics of cartoon characters... whaaat? XD Sontails.com too... none of the pics are above PG at most. The fanfiction I believe is entirely clean too, aside from maybe one fic with an R-rated chapter? To say my LJ or website are in any way connected with Sonic porn is just so untrue and silly it's laughable. So, how can I take these guys seriously when they're spewing that kind of nonsense?
Second, their ranting about ME fantasizing over cartoon characters... uh, no. Do I think Sonic is awesome? Yes. Do I think he's attractive? Well yeah. I admit he's pretty hot, and maybe thinking so is a little weird. But do I want to have sex with him, or fantasize about such things? No. To be honest, the idea of human/hedgehog sex squicks me out big time. I appreciate Sonic as a character, think he's awesome, maybe obsess over him a little... but to see these SA guys going on about me ****ing off thinking about him and/or sex-scenes with him and any other character... XD No. Just, no.
Also, the guys in that thread seem rather obsessed with the whole gay sex/****ing thing, despite it not ever being mentioned in my LJ or on my site. Freudian much? XD
Thirdly, those mini-essays about how my LJ is an example of various post-modern illnesses of society... the amount of time these people put into writing up these intricate posts about MY lack of a life, yet failing to see the irony right there... XD Way to go. Waaaay to go.
Not to mention how COMPLETELY off the mark they are. I don't know where they get all that crud about people like me being unable to accept criticism or co-exist with people who disagree with them. Again, they're clearly typing this crud out of their asses, or responding to other responses in the thread without actually having read my journal at all. 'Cause if they actually had, they'd see that I'm perfectly capable of existing in a circle of friends with vastly differing views. I have a lot of friends in this 'circle', and they range from those with pretty similar views to those with entirely opposing views. How many are actually Sontails fans? Three, maybe four? Perhaps five at most. Yet in that same large circle I also have friends who support pairings I deeply dislike, characters I deeply dislike, and even those who hate Sonic completely. I may have strong personal opinions, but I'm perfectly comfortable with the opinions of others and I don't tend to post rants about why other people are wrong. I don't need to. I'm secure enough in what I believe and what I like, and I don't need my friends to all think the same. I may write 'essays' about the things I do like, or the things that peeve me, but it's never on a personal level. Again, I don't know where Lowtax and crew are getting these ideas from, but it's so much crap it just has to be laughed off, y'know?
Also, the pot-debate thread should be evidence enough that I can hold my own opinion without getting upset over the conflicting opinions of others.
Oh, and those jabs about people like me not procreating? Isn't it an in-joke on SA that Goons can't get laid? So, mild hypocrisy there... As for me, I have a girlfriend, thanks. I've been with her for 8 years and we're very happy :)
Edit: Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding me, Jei - them mocking me for living in "Wurzel Country" was THE BEST! Somerset accent and all... when I've lived in London all my life up until now XDD
There's more I could go into, but those are just some brief points.
Oh, and I guess one other thing - SA is actually not a bad site in some ways. The daily editorial/feature is usually pretty darn funny, and some of the forum threads are great. I believe that the majority of SA goons are actually decent people, and it's only a select few who are idiots (such as Lowtax and company). Therefore, I have nothing against the site itself or its members. And Lowtax & co can continue typing this trash about me for as long as they want to milk it. I know it's not true, those who know me know it's not true, and the majority of SA'ers who've come over here have told me they don't see why Lowtax has me on there either.
Basically, that thread fails.

Tails may be 8 in SEGA's games - he's 14 in the Fleetway comics, and at least 13 by now in Archie, and fandom allows us to make him (and Sonic) older than that anyway if we wish to. That's the joy of fandom.
As far as sexualising 'kids' games... I assume you're not familiar with the current games? Shadow the Hedgehog was given a 'Mature' rating, aimed at teens and young adults. Sonic Next Gen contained a kiss between Sonic and a human princess... something that even I found squicky.
As you mentioned, there's far worse out there. My interest might be a little unusual, but trolling me for it seems pointless. What do you hope to accomplish? Laugh at me from a distance if you get your jollies that way... but coming here? Why? What is the point? Does it even MATTER what I personally enjoy as long as I'm not forcing it on anyone? I suppose it does to you. I'll never understand that, but oh well :)

Sure, the older games, Tails is young compared to Sonic, but he does get older. Yay fandom. :P Sontails isn't really a pedophile.
What would be a pedophile would be someone like Tifa (FFVII) and Eiko (FFIX). *gasp* Yes, I do like other fandoms other than Sonic. :P
