~All your triumph, and all you'll ever be~
Dec. 4th, 2006 07:30 pmI think I figured out why Silver doesn't bother me so much, even though I have heavy dislike of the Sonic Next Gen game. He reminds me a little of myself. Just a little. He's a little bit awkward, somewhat naive, and a little displaced in a world probably vastly different to his own. He's far more driven than me, but I think he has the same sort of vehement inbuilt sense of justice that I do. Also, he's fairly serious by nature, but also a little immature. I don't know, I guess I feel like I can slightly relate ^^; I think he's a decent character, and I appreciate that he's been semi-officially paired with Blaze, therefore toning down the Sonblaze rabidness that was rampant after Sonic Rush :P
Another thing growing on me a little is Silver/Blaze as a couple. I guess maybe because I see vague overtones of my OTP, Sontails, in it. Blaze considers Silver to be like a younger sibling as well as a best friend, forging an incredibly strong bond between the two of them that perhaps transcends friendship OR family. Although Blaze and Sonic aren't similar as characters at all (anyone else who calls Blaze 'the female Sonic' shall be smote! >.>), and Silver and Tails aren't that similar, I still see kind of a similar dynamic in their relationships that makes me warm slightly to Silver and Blaze, which hadn't seemed possible to me before.
So yeah, I'm sure Chase will be incredibly pleased that I'm warming to them ^^ I blame her, really :P I wouldn't have given them a chance otherwise.
Edit: I also want to address my coming-of-peace with Sonic Next Gen. I don't like the events of the game, and I don't accept them within my personal canon, but I DO appreciate the way in which it was done - the inclusion of multiple futures and, with it, the possibility of multiple timelines and even multiple realities. I don't have to accept Next Gen because it didn't happen - at least, not in MY timeline. You could say that none of it happened. You could say it ALL happened. You could even say that all possibilities have played out at once, and that it's possible to jump between them, but in the end, it's up to you to choose your final path. I can think of the Sonic fandom as being infinite in a sense. There are so many facets to it... the old-school games, the newer games, the animé, the Saturday Morning cartoons... Who's to say anyone is _wrong_? I know what I believe and the canon I follow... it's just one slice - my slice. If you picture continuity as being like a cuboid, a 3d bar, colored with a gradient from, say, white to dark blue... if you take two thin slices from the middle, they'll be incredibly similar (eg, the Next Gen timeline, identical until they split off at the point where for example Sonic dies), but if you take a slice from either end of the bar, the colors contrast much more, with far less similarity (eg, SatAM compared to Next Gen). They're both Sonicverses, so they'll have SOME similarities... but they're also very different. I'm content to think of it that way. It makes my brain hurt less.
And yes, I do think too much about this stuff :\ What can I say? Sonic is important to me.
