No luck on the chess front yet >/

BUT OMG THIS:

... makes me miss my first ever true!fandom so. damn. much.

Classic Star Trek was the first fandom I ever really got into. When I was still in single digits (eight or nine I think), I was writing Star Trek fanfiction. I didn't even have Internet back then, so I had NO idea that there were other people out there who also wrote 'fic'. When I was 11 we finally got Internet on our home computer. AOL 3.0 on our screechy slow-as-heck dial-up modem. One of my first discoveries was fandom-based chatrooms. I remember meeting other Trek fans, role-playing for the very first time, and developing a very mild infactuation on someone with a screenname based on DeForest Kelley (I always did love McCoy best ♥). I start collecting merch for the first time, and my greatest ever piece of Trek stuff was the replica Command Chair that a family friend made for me. It was AMAZING. It was made from wood with plush cushioning, swivelled on the base, and had all the buttons and intercom stuff on the arms and wah I miss it ): I also had a phaser, communicator and tricorder. Oh, and the full set of action figures for the seven main crew members (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu).

Now I just really wanna get back my old box set of the whole TOS run (they were on VHS though, blah) and watch them all from start to finish ;_; I wonder if box-sets of DVDs for the whole thing are ludicrously expensive... Ah well, once day soon (hopefully) I will have moneys for such endeavours :D

YESSS. What I totally meant to say in my post also, because of what you said before, was that TOS fills me with the same kind of happy that 60's Batman does. The same silly quirky old-school nonsense with ridiculous plots and over-the-top characters... yet with some really cool and interesting messages and touching scenes ;_; 60's shows were the best...

60s shows ROCKED!! They were so much fun... so campy and silly and just... gah! Nothing like them. I used to watch so many 60s/70s shows when I was little because of Nick-at-Night... shows like I Dream of Genie and Bewitched. Dunno if you've ever seen those, but like Batman and Star Trek, they were just so much fun.

I Dream of Jeannie was SO awesome :D I'd love to watch that show again, too. So silly and goofy and fun. I never saw Bewitched.

I remember watching Star Trek all the time with my dad. That and Star Trek: The Next Generation . . . I remember my dad was always working when TNG was on so my mom would record it on VHS so he could watch it later, and I would watch it when she was doing that . . . And yes, I read the novels and even had a video game of it for the Super NES . . . ^^

And I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] way_past_cool in saying that 60s shows were nothing but good old-fashioned cheesy fun; I used to watch them on Nick at Nite when I was little. I remember when Nick at Nite did a contest asking viewers to vote for their preferred superpower: Jeannie's nod or Sammantha's nose twitch. I wanted Jeannie to win but was so sad when she lost . . . XD

Ahahaha that reminds me, I also had a ST:TOS PC game, waaaay back... One of those puzzle-solving games where you have to walk around and click on things and gather evidence and clues and decide what item would work on what target... I need to find it again because it was GREAT!

60's shows were pure win. Jeannie was made of epic and awesome and yay :D

I've never played that game but I remember my parents' old computer with Windows 3.1 on it that came with Solitaire and Minesweeper and some game that my dad installed involving controlling some sort of cannon on a military base I believe and you had to shoot down the planes and helicopters and soldiers and such before they took control of your base and blew you up. Fun stuff. XD

This is the game that I played when I was little. I don't recall ever beating it because it was insanely hard and the game didn't come with a manual or anything (my dad found it in the Salvation Army for a few dollars), but it was fun nonetheless. XD

Your game sounds like fun too; puzzles + Star Trek = epicness. Knowing me I'd be hooked for hours. XD

No luck on the chess front here either, but since there's a big outdoor market in the town centre tomorrow (there's one weekly every Wednesday), and the fact I've never been able to just hang around and look through it properly, chess set hunting gives me the perfect excuse to do just this. XD

I'd see them setting up on the way to school or work, and then they'd all be closing down by the time I finished. I always missed the market. Woe. :(

Is there anything in particular you're looking for?

Just a simple basic no-gimmicks chess set. Wood (or most other materials) is preferable over plastic, but it doesn't really matter. Any size. As long as all the pieces and the board are there, it's all good ♥
