Paint it black >D
Sep. 11th, 2010 09:17 pm[Boring post ahoy.]
I dyed my hair again :D
I dunno if any of you guys who saw me at Summer of Sonic about a month ago remember but I had blond and red highlights in it for a while. I really liked how it looked, but the red was starting to fade out to a rusty pink (it was only demi-permanent) so I figured I needed a touch up. Then I considered that I've had funky highlights in my hair for a couple of years now of the same-ish variety: blonde, copper, red etc. I also considered what my mum said a while ago; she loves my coloured hair but worries that if it's TOO funky, it might impact on me getting a job. Of course she also told me back then that the reason I would be passed over for jobs would be because I'm 'fatter' than some other people who would be considered. So, I didn't really think much of it. But she may be right (on both counts!). I mean, as illegal as it is to discriminate in certain ways, if two people have IDENTICAL qualifications and/or levels experience, you're more likely to simply go for the more aesthetically presentable candidate, right? Human nature, and particularly in customer-facing roles (helpdesk, reception, tiller etc).
So.
While I am already dealing with the 'getting into shape' part (I wasn't actually as 'fat' as I thought I must be by now), I decided that maybe I should be less 'crazy' with my hair for now. Not that it was insanely crazy before, but perhaps one overall even and comparatively 'basic' colour will have a better impression than my previous somewhat haphazard highlights ^^
I had no idea what to go for, but it needed to be able to cover my faded highlights and my natural hair colour (dark brown) completely. Miles was like "Black e.e". I kinda groaned at that, but he did have a point. Black is a pretty fail-safe option for dark hair. But it's kinda... you know... boring. Not that natural black hair is boring, nooo. Some of my favourite human characters have black hair (hello Doyler, Bruce, Dick...) and it can look really good. But as an artificially dyed colour it can turn out looking really flat, lifeless and nothingy. True black has no option for facets/shades. If Miles had his way, I'm sure he would have gone for the plain dull black, but I managed to wrestle a compromise out of him. In the end I wound up buying two slightly different shades to choose between, both marketed as 'black' shades. One had a hint of violet to it with a multi-faceted look that seemed almost like slight highlights, and the other was a blue-black midnight-sky kind of colour that was more even and solid. For as much interest as I could get from him, Miles liked that one better - maybe just to be contrary because I kinda preferred the purple-ish one. But I have had purple-y colours in my hair a lot lately, so I kinda went 'whatever' and just went with the midnight black.
And now I have black hair, woo. I did do this once before, yeeeears ago, with a similar blue-black colour. But it didn't work well on my hair and the blue hint never showed. Hopefully this one is better, but also subtle enough that it doesn't look unnatural or too 'trendy'. I think it came out nicely, but the light in my apartment is horrible so I'll have to wait for daylight tomorrow to see the result properly.
Wow, how did I pull a whole LJ entry out of that? O_o I am so mundane XD
I see a red door and I want to paint it black
No colours any more, I want them to turn black~♪

Date: 2010-09-12 02:27 am (UTC)I have a problem too. As you might remember, I have quite a dark brown on natural colour as well, so... dying my hair, or at least finding dye that looks okay on dark hair, is a little annoying.
And just because:
