flyboy_foxWell, yesterday/today was certainly interesting ^^;
Jei and I went into London yesterday to meet up with Dreadknux, AAUK, Vger, B'man, Urthheart, T-Bird n' co to check out a potential Summer of Sonic venue for this year. I'm heading Team Flyboy this year, meaning I'm running cartoons/comics (as usual) plus the shop. Whoo! So basically this meet was about scoping the venue and also delegating roles and responsibilities for the day.
It started out well enough. We caught the 7am coach from Bournemouth station to London Victoria, arriving there ahead of schedule at just after 9am. From there, it was about a half hour by Tube to the station where the venue was, and although we were running a little late, everyone else was still waiting around, both for Dreadknux (fashionably late) and the security guy who was supposed to let us in ^^; But finally the security guy arrived, shortly followed by Dread, and we got inside.
Not sure I'm allowed to announce the official verdict until Dreaderz releases his video within the next day or so, but it was cool seeing the place and working out where everything would be IF we choose this venue. Personal opinion - I liked it ♥
Anyway, following that official business, we headed directly next door to Walkabout for drinks and chat. We left after AAUK's wife got an ice-cube with an ant in it in her drink. Twice. @_@
Then just down the road to O'Neill's for more drinks =D Fun times. From there, we took the tube to Forbidden Planet (fuck the stairs at that station -193 steps! Bastards.) to look for Free Comic Book Day goodness. Sadly, they were all out of Archie Sonic freebies. But Jei and I did pick up a couple of Robin (Batman) graphic novels and issue #111 of Archie Sonic.
From there, we walked to Piccadilly to the Trocadero for fun times with arcade games. Seriously, Dreadknux and T-Bird battling it out on the Hopping Road game had to be seen to be believed XD;
Around this time, Jei and I figured we needed to get back to Victoria 'cause our coach was due to leave at 5:30. Unfortunately, we left it a little late and... well... we missed our coach D: Fail, Team Flyboy, fail.
Soooo we headed back to the Troc and met up with Team SoS for more drinks and chat, mostly about delegating responsibilities and troubleshooting for SoS '10. Then Jei and I split again to get the next coach.
Or at least, that was the plan D: All of the rest of the coaches for the night were booked up. Damn.
Okay, no worries, we'll just get the train! Or... not. £83 for the two of us! Yeah, not happening. So... we thought maybe we could just get a cheap hotel, or even a hostel, for the night and spend another day in London the next day.
Sadly it was about 11pm by now and everything was either booked up or WAY too expensive for a couple of losers like us =D
So in the end, we had pretty much one option left. Spend the night wandering around London and get the 7am coach home the next morning. Score!
I really wouldn't have minded except for that everything was closing and it was POURING with rain. Fail. So, Jei and I literally spend the whole night walking around London Piccadilly/Leicester Square/Oxford Circus in the rain, ducking into cafés, noodle bars and internet cafés when possible for small breaks of time. Until 7am. ALL NIGHT. AHH.
Got the coach at 7am from Victoria and slept all the way home. Got home around 9:30 and slept until 6pm D: Did I mention we only had 3 hours sleep the previous night too? WHAT A DAY.
We made it, though :) Members of SSMB or potential attendees of Summer of Sonic 2010, stay tuned for venue news! ♥
