Blah blah blah World Cup report
Jun. 20th, 2006 10:13 pmEngland 2 - 2 Sweden
We could've done better, but at least a draw means we finish top of Group B. This is good, not just for morale, but because it means our first knock out match is against Equador, not Germany. Germany are, obviously, the home team (as where the World Cup is being hosted), and they played a very strong game in their last match. 3 - 0 against Equador. I'd rather we didn't have to go up against them quite so early in the next tier, so... it's good we avoided that. Would have felt better if we'd _won_, as we have an INCREDIBLY long record of not being able to beat the Swedes x.x Buuut a goal in the 90th minute stopped THAT from happening. Oh well, we only needed a draw in order to finish top of Group B. Just hope we can play some better football once the pressure REALLY comes on.
As an aside, Cole played awesomely. He scored England's first goal, and set up the second goal. Gerrard (who scored the second goal) also played well. We had 5 midfielders in the second half, and all the players with yellow cards were subbed in. S'pose it wasn't _too_ much of a risk, as their slates get wiped clean before proceeding into the knockout stages. Not quite sure what happened with Michael Owen though :\ Seems he was taken off with an injury within the first couple minutes of play, and might end up having to sit this World Cup out. Eh.
Our next match is on June 25th. Here's hoping England will have a ready and fit team to plough with into the finals.

Date: 2006-06-21 03:57 am (UTC)2) Has Brazil ever bidded to host a World Cup?
3) Does Canada send a team to the qualifying matches?
4) Is CONCACAF the longest acronym in the English language? :p

Date: 2006-06-21 10:39 pm (UTC)The first England's goal was really awesome. I, however, slept through the second one.. (because I didn't sleep at all the night before). BTW, I supported the English team. :D
Also, I'd say the English team is really high skilled.
