So, the World Cup is off to a flying start! ^_^ ... kinda.

England played Paraguay today in the Group B opening match, and came away with a 1-0 victory, which is a good start. But it certainly wasn't the best match ever played by the 3 Lions. The only goal came in the fourth minute of play, and wasn't even a proper goal... it was an own-goal deflection off the head of Paruguay's team captain, Gamarra x.x England's second-half performance was pretty naff, too. A few close calls, especially right at the end before and during stoppage time.

It was a win, but not a convincing win. Come on England, you can do better! >/

In other news, it's so hot today that I'm actually not wearing socks. Normally I wear two pairs of socks AND my slippers, 'cause my feet are always coooold. But today, I'm barefoot :P Wow.

It's supposedly gonna stay this hot until next week, when there'll be thunderstorms (WAH!! @_@) to clear the air, and the temperature will drop a few degrees to what looks like a much milder and nicer temperature ^^; Not looking forward to those storms, but a reduction in heat/humidity would definitely be nice.

Well, that's all :P See ya!

Figured I'd quote this from David Lettermen's top 10 list a few days ago, just for number 1 :P

10. You change your name from Kenny to Pele

9. On tax return you list occupation: "Hooligan"

8. After you successfully toast an English muffin, you rip off your shirt and run around the house

7. Whenever the mailman shows up you scream, 'MAAAAAAAAIIIILLLLLLLLL!"

6. Have a tattoo of Czech striker Pavel Nedved on your ass

5. You replace your hairpiece with chunk of sod from Wembley Stadium

4. Aches, a rash and vomiting - - I'm sorry, those are signs you have Bird Flu

3. In accordance with league standards, you've inflated your pants to 8.5 pounds per square inch

2. Every four years, you walk around in a Brandi Chastain sports bra

1. You're not American

Heh, that last one is so true, at least from everyone I've met ^^;

Hmm...well, at least they won, even if it wasn't a great performance :D Long as they can keep it up things'll be good.

I'm curious, how hot is so hot? Hehe, I'm almost always barefoot - just feels nicer for me I guess.

Wait, how does a series of thunderstorms make it less humid? It'll cool it down, but the humidity should go up when the rain stops x.x I know from marching band - rain was a double edged sword. No practice, but the next day sucked, a lot ^^;

Eh, it's hot but not insanely hot... low 80s maybe? Pretty hot for early June in the UK, but possibly not that hot for people in hotter climes :P But my room is an oven. Not only is the boiler next door with the hot water pipes right under my floorboards, but the radiator is busted too and won't turn completely off x.x So it just gets to be an oven in here.

As for that list... XD One day you Americans will understand why the rest of the world loves "soccer". Yay World Cup! :P

Heh. The team of England :)

Neither Latvia nor Russia made it to the World Cup (O_o for the Russia), so I was kind of baffled whom to support.. Then I checked the list of teams and discovered many good ones.

So, for now, the team I'm the biggest fan of at this championship is:
1. Japan.

Then there go:

2. South Korea
3. Netherlands (that's historical, I've supported them 2 years ago)
4. Ukraine
5. England
6. USA
7. Brazil

etc. :)

P.S. The Greeks won the European Football Cup, but didn't qualify to be one of 32 teams competing for the World Cup? Odd.

I've been like that about Ice Hockey World Cup here in Riga.. But since EVERYBODY was crazy about it, I starting being a fan too. Though it ended when both my favorite teams lost in their groups.
