No. Noooo no no..... Argh!

Okay, SEGA, stop killing everything Sonic ever was ;_; Seriously. Stop it. NOW!!

I am pissed and upset. Yeah, maybe I don't have much of a life, to care so much... but... IT BUGS ME >O

Sonic is going to be 5'10" in the Next Gen Sonic game. They gave him human proportions and made him taller than I am! That's... not right! Sonic is supposed to be small... He was cool because he didn't need to be human-sized in order to kick butt. Having him be human-sized is just TOO weird. I just can't fathom it, to be honest.

There's also going to be a new rival hedgehog... a cream colored hedgehog that looks a lot like Sonic :\ Great, all we need, ANOTHER Sonic look-a-like rival character!

Oh, and Sonic is "the Iblis Trigger", some kinda chosen one who can summon the Devil or something. Jei said the whole plot is sounding like something out of a Final Fantasy game. Whilst FF may be very cool, Sonic is NOT FF. Gyah! It's like they're just... changing EVERYTHING about Sonic and the fandom. Right now I really can't see much 'old-school' about that game at all... in fact, it barely even feels like a Sonic game, aside from in name :\ Screw you, SEGA ._.

Oh yeah, and the fourth playable character in the new Sonic Rivals game for PSP has been confirmed as... wait for it... ANOTHER NEW CHARACTER!! 'Cause we need more new characters, oh yes. >.>

::Sigh:: This is not good. The Sonic fandom is heading in a direction that just feels so different from what I'm used to. There's not much left to cling to... it's all changed, all different... all so much the same as every other fandom out there now. It's so divorced from what it once was.

Gonna go mope now :\

They're killing it!!! And it seems like there's nothing fans can do to stop it because there are always a handful of fans that don't give a poop about the history of Sonic and will always LOVE when the story gets more angsty. ARGGG!!!

See if Jei can get you a subscription to the ARchie Sonic Comics, Sonic is still preserved in his coolness, instead of changing everything every time a new game is to be released.

Plus the Sonic Comics have more characters that are cool too =3 like Fiona Fox, and Doctor Fintevius, and Sally and Company are tehre, u'd like the archie sonic comics =3

Nooo way... I'm not an Archie fan at all ^^; Sonic's such a player... ugh, it makes me sick :( He even went with Fiona, even though he knew Tails liked her... I'm just not fond of Archie. Too many side-characters, and it's like a giant soap opera ^^;;

Heh...

Really, the idea of Sonic being linked somehow to ancient mystical stuff sounds a lot like what many of the fans have done in fanfic. And the Shadow game, what with Satan-in-Hot-Topic Black Doom and all, really set it up.

**SHADOW SPOILERS**

I mean, Doomy said he put the airships in sky troops there 2000 years prior. That's a very significant number in Christian cultures, and it implies that many of the legends about the devil, etc. are actually about Black Doom in the gameverse.

**/SHADOW SPOILERS**

The fans actually want Sonic to be a mystical chosen one. Not all of them, no, but clearly a large fraction of us.

As for the new proportions... I like this idea. And if he's human-proportioned, the others probably will be too. Which means that I can find them hot with a clear conscience. er... ^^*

I admit I don't like the idea of ANOTHER rival hedgehog--don't they have enough of those already--but I'm keeping an open mind about this new game. As long as it has angst... I'm happy.

But it's just so cliché! The thing I liked about Sonic was that he wasn't a mystical chosen one... I respected him because everything he did was his OWN CHOICE, y'know? It wasn't destiny. It was him doing what he chose to do with the gift he was given.

And them with human proportions just really creeps me out :\ I've never been a fan of fully-anthro furries. I liked the Sonic crew because they were somewhere in between.

And I don't like angst in Sonic games... :P At least not excessive angst. For me, the games are about having fun, not getting sucked down into a dark abyss of heaviness and gloom.

I'm very hardcore retro. I can't imagine liking it. It's just too different now. But yeah, we'll see I guess.

Spoilers below.

For me, the Sonic games aren't about being sucked down into angst... it's about triumphing over it. I recently decided to pass up Sonic Riders because the only modicum of angst in it involves Jet's family life. Jet doesn't deal with this angst, it's only alluded to to establish the whole Bablyon Rogues stuff.

And the reason I love Shadow (the game) is not because of Shadow's eternal angst about his life--it's becuase of Sonic's descent into despair and the restoration of his hope. The keyword being the restoration of his hope. Like a great many Sonic fans, I've had a fairly rough life... And many times I've wished that, just once, I could beat the problems that came at me instead of waiting for them to go away. That's why Sonic, especially the Post-Adventure games and the Archie comics, have appealed to me: Sonic the Hedgehog is the story of unlikely heroes rising to terrible occasions and saving the world and their own hearts from the darkness that surrounds them.

And really, I don't see the point in all this mystical stuff if Sonic and the gang aren't tied into it. They've been throwing it at us for years--the Chaos emeralds, the rings, the floating Island. The later additions of Chaos, the Black Arms, and Babylon really just follow a trend. But it begs the question--why is it that Sonic is one of the only characters who regularly goes Super? Why doesn't Eggman do it? Why haven't Tails or Knuckles done it more often? Why did Shadow nearly die in the attempt? This has been foreshadowed since the beginning of the fandom--and the idea of Sonic being a chosen one doesn't remove his free will. If he wanted to, he could chose not to be. Hell, maybe he's the chosen one BECAUSE of the choices that he makes.

You say it's cliche, but I disagree. It's far too common and standard to be cliche--it's archetypical. The difference between Sonic and the other "chosen one" stuff, though, is the quality of it all, and the character of Sonic. Sonic is a truly independent character, with a sense of free will and an attitude that, while noble, isn't exactly pious. It's a new twist on an old archetype, a twist that a portion of the fandom has been waiting for for years... ten years, in my case.

And fully anthro furries bother me less than Sonic-style ones. As long as they aren't graphically naked (Cartoon nudity, like Sonic-tachi, is fine), I don't care. I play Furcadia sometimes, if that says anything.

*splutters* WTF? And here I was looking forward to that. :p That's sort of like when they made a new Ghostbuster cartoon except it was EXTREME Ghostbusters and there was a coooooool goth chick and all their adventures were TOTALLY X-TREME TO THE MAX. And every single person who saw it was like all, what the goddamn fuck is this?!

That's what this is like. Except I guess going TOTALLY EXTREME already happened to Sonic, not like he ever needed it. :p

If I had more time I would express my anger in a few long winded paragprahs. But I don't have that time....so....

....Damnit! Damnitall! AKSHDKSDJK QER!

5'10"? He's my height, and that's not freaking right! ::Bashes head:: I always wanted a Sonic RPG, but as a side thing. Keep the genre going as it should be!

But they did change everything every time a new game was released! And then it got all fucked up and unrecognizable. There was hope after endgame but it sputtered out.

Is Fiona still a robot?

IIRC, Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic were all "chosen," just that Tails was the highest of the three. Which I thought was f'in-A back when I was a Tails fan. But I like Sonic a bit more now, so naturally, I'm rooting for him :p

I guess there's no pleasing all the fans all the time ^^;

I just really feel that changing his height to human proportions is just another step towards making him, and the whole Sonic universe, more human. And I don't like that at all. I noticed it worst of all in Shadow's game... the guns and cars... all the kinda of stuff you'd get in a game like GTA. BLEH! I don't like that the Sonic world suddenly became almost identical to our world, too. The Sonic Adventure games, whilst fun, bugged me a LOT because it was a world populated by humans. Humans. Everywhere. Cities. Cars. Just like our world. I just kinda feel like... why bother having animal heroes in a world that's just like our own?

I loved when the games only had one human in them - Eggman. He represented what humans have done to this planet. The main characters were always the animals. Whether anthro, or just little woodland creatures trapped inside the machines.

Suddenly it all became too much like our planet is now, too human-oriented. And THAT's what really bugs me.

I went through the same process, of being hardcore Tails and now more into Sonic, but I still wouldn't want Sonic to be THE chosen one. Like was said before, I like it better that he's a hero by his own choice, and since I'm a big softie for the Sonic-Tails brother relationship I like that he gets to basically raise the real chosen one.

Whatever. I'm not going to be getting a new console anytime soon anyway, so I probably won't get a chance to play this game.

Yes! Thank you! Whenever I try to turn anyone onto SatAM I start with "It's got this *really great* environmentalist message you'll love". Because all my friends are hippie crybabies. ;)

I suppose that's one of the main divergence points for us. I don't particularly enjoy or see a need to villify the human race, at least not to the degree that many other Sonic fans do. I think it makes the furry characters much more meaningful when they're placed in the context of a world where furries and humans live in harmony--they represent something different from the humans, and it creates interesting questions about the nature of humanity. I guess... My love of fiction ties to a longing to explore humanity. Not humanity as in flesh and blood humans so much as the human mind. And I view the furry characters as empowered humans--so the addition of unempowered humans just adds to the picture.

I'm just a different breed of fan, I suppose. Something about Sonic has always resonated with me, and that something hasn't left the series, it's simply changed, evolved into something new. I see the same darkness in the Post-Adventure games as I did in the Archie comics--the form it took was different, but its essence is the same. And that darkness, and the struggle between it and the light in each of the characters, is what makes the series enjoyable for me, so long as the light wins out in the end.

I forget EXACTLY what happened... but there were all these different Tailses from different dimentions(?), and they all grouped together to form this disgusting pumped up uber-Tails called Titan Tails (or something like that). Oh yeah, and then after it was all over, it was made so that no one remembered what happened x.x I repeat, it was LAME ;_; I expected/hoped for better.
