Food ;_;

I am SO hungry. Every second thought is about food. Not just any food, but the most ridiculously calorific food-fests I can imagine. Why does my psyche torture me so?

Long story short, I have a little extra around my middle that I want to shift. I've been pretty lazy and slackish about it because hey, I've never been significantly overweight. I look okay. But I know that I'll never feel really good if I don't make more effort and get into good shape rather than meandering around 'average'.

I've tried so many 'diets' to try to change my eating habits, because although I am a sensible eater, DAMN I like to snack. So this time I've decided to be really strict. Cereal bar for breakfast, low-fat soup for lunch, and a healthy small dinner, with small amounts of fruit for snacks. But god it's not getting any easier XD;

I guess I just have to admit that I'm a glutton. It would absolutely be my Deadly Sin. I love to eat. Really, it's amazing that I'm not more than a tiny bit over the best weight for my height. I probably should thank overall health and a speedy metabolism for that, but I know that won't last forever.

So, now that I have a cupboard filled with the only stuff I'm allowed to eat, with exactly the right amount for the week, I have no choice but to stick to it. If I eat more than my share, it won't be there for the rest of the week until I shop on Saturday :P

I'm currently avoiding (but not completely abstaining from) wheat and milk (using soya where I can), only eating food with a low GI index, and keeping my daily calorie count below 1,000. IF THAT DOESN'T SHIFT THIS STUBBORN BIT OF EXCESS THEN I DUNNOOOOOO.

Edit: Yikes! Thanks for your concern, everyone :) You're right, 1,000 is a little bit too small. I'm actually eating more around 1,200, which I've researched and found is safe for my height and weight ^^ I'll be sensible! Most of all I'm keeping my nutrition balanced with fruit, veg, protein and a small amount of carbs (no Atkins for me :P). And exercising.

Thank you all for the concern! I'm glad nobody wants me collapsing of malnutrition XD;

*hugs* I read somewhere that it's unhealthy to eat less than 1,000 calories a day . . . :/

I don't recall ever seeing a picture of you, but I imagine that you already look fine . . . If you really do feel the need to diet though, maybe instead of limiting yourself to such small meals, maybe hunt down some more filling foods that still have a low calorie/fat count. I've found that many low fat/fat free versions of my favorite foods taste the same as the regular stuff (if not better), such as salad dressing. <3 Make sure you eat from each of your food groups too; you need your nutrients that can be found in those.

Just be careful, okay? I don't want you passing out from a lack of nutrition . . . *hugs*

Don't worry, I'm being very careful to make sure I'm still getting everything I need, and I'm not going far below 1,000... I'll look out for some fat-free versions of stuff I like so that I don't die of boredom, too XD

Thanks for the concern :) Means a lot.

If I remember correctly, red cabbage and cottage cheese seemed to be working well for you at one point...Maybe it could work again, Jai?

I can still snack on cottage cheese with fruit ^^ Red cabbage I don't have so often because it's a PAIN to cook and makes the whole house smell for days XD

Heh, wow, and here I thought you were eating the cabbage raw.XD

Haha, no... red cabbage is best when it's stewed with apple and spices ^^

Eating less than 1000 calories a day isn't good for you physically or psychologically no matter what way you try to justify it. The average adult human actually needs 2000 calories per day to survive. If you really must shoot for a low number, I suggest 1500, at least. Exercise will do wonders, too. Build muscles, because muscles will burn fat by just existing, and combine THAT with exercise.

Oh yes. And if you consistently eat a low number of calories and gradually work your way back up to a higher number, whether intentionally or just out of being unable to maintian the habit, you will get fat. Eating unnaturally will screw up your metabolism.

As I said to the other anon, I think I'm probably actually at 1,200 calories per day rather than 1,000, which seems to be safe for dieting (it's the lowest recommended cap according to my weight-group). I'll be careful! ^^;

I'm pretty sure 2,000 is the average daily allowance for men, not women. But I figure my count is probably nearer 1,200 than 1,000 even if I try ^^;

The exercise thing is an awesome point, and I'm currently doing 3 miles on my treadmill per day and also trying to walk outside whenever it's sunny. Hopefully that'll help!

I was gonna use the "hungry" icon you made for me but I was afraid that might be a bit much so I stuck with my usual. XD

But yeah, gluttony would definitely be one of my major deadly sins XD; food is so gooood... and it's so hard to resist. But I'm planning to lose a few this summer too. I'm gonna start up an exercise routine too n.n so we can both work together to be healthy this summer!

Yay! n.n You'll have to tell me what you're eating so that we can help each other... and exercise too!

Yes, i have to agree with Anon and say that eating such a low amount of calories really won't help in the long-run unless you plan on eating that little for the rest of your life (..and i imagine you'd wither away befor long!). 1500cal is a better goal, and you can supplement that with exercise. :)

I think I'm at 1,200 rather than 1,000, after doing some sums. Apparently that's a safe number ^^ I'll be careful!

Yeah, below 1000 is too much! D: I think the very lowest you should ever go if you're trying to lose weight is around 1200-1500, and not lower than that. You need at least 2000 if I remember right just to function!

Fruits and veggies are very good fillers :3b As is low-fat soup as you mentioned. Have you considered drinks like shakes or anything? I runno, but sometimes when I'm all "gahhh" I get myself a shake (though I have to buy outside and tell them NO SUGARZ PL0X l-lol...)

And if you can, juggle it with some exercise - it'll up the chances that it's fat you're actually burning and not your muscles (nooo not the muscle!) As far as I know anyway XD

Also: don't switch too fast to a new "diet". You should shift gradually if you intend to, otherwise I think you won't get used to it at all. XD;

I think 2,000 is for men, and that's to sustain their weight, not lose any... but you're right, and I think I'm at 1,200 really anyway, having done the calculations.

I'm also doing 3 miles on my treadmill each day, which should hopefully help :o

Thanks ^^

Apparently 2000 calories is the amount for women, its 2500 for men :)

Oh, you're right :) Thanks. Although of course it does vary depending on age/height/body fat etc.

I have managed to lose 3 pounds so far and I feel very good and healthy and not hungry between meals, so whatever I'm doing seems to be working ^^
