~Gimme a thrill!~
Mar. 27th, 2009 12:31 pmOkay, second one, from an anon (O.o I seem to have several anons following my journal lately, haha):
What are you doing at Uni? You never talk about it. If you're doing art or something digital, what are you doing, is it what you thought it would be, and are you enjoying it?
You're right, I don't talk much about Uni. As far as important things in my life go, the actual act of moving away from home and living by myself has been much more important to me than actually studying at university. Truth be told, I don't actually like my course - it wasn't what I expected it to be. The course is "Psychology and Computing", and I'd hoped for a lot more of the 'computing' side. It turns out to be incredibly basic and makes up only a fraction of the course, which saddened me. For example, 'Alice' is about as far into object-oriented scripting and programming as the course goes. I had to spend extra time with my tutor after class to talk about the origins and history of binary because no one in class was interested in rows of 0s and 1s. All-in-all, it was highly disappointing. I also hit a big roadblock when it came to the sheer amount of interaction with strangers that the course involves. Whereas I did feel misled about the I.T. side, I guess I have only myself to blame for not guessing that a Psychology course would require a lot of human interaction. For example, needing to collect survey information from up to 25 random people off the street did not bode well with me.
Currently, I'm weighing my options. I'm either going to transfer to Interactive Media Production next academic year, or I'm going to find full-time work and just wing it again for a while. Either way, I'll remain in Bournemouth. No good will come of it if I give up and go home - I need to remain independent, or everything I've done to get this far will be for nothing.
