Okay, second one, from an anon (O.o I seem to have several anons following my journal lately, haha):

What are you doing at Uni? You never talk about it. If you're doing art or something digital, what are you doing, is it what you thought it would be, and are you enjoying it?

You're right, I don't talk much about Uni. As far as important things in my life go, the actual act of moving away from home and living by myself has been much more important to me than actually studying at university. Truth be told, I don't actually like my course - it wasn't what I expected it to be. The course is "Psychology and Computing", and I'd hoped for a lot more of the 'computing' side. It turns out to be incredibly basic and makes up only a fraction of the course, which saddened me. For example, 'Alice' is about as far into object-oriented scripting and programming as the course goes. I had to spend extra time with my tutor after class to talk about the origins and history of binary because no one in class was interested in rows of 0s and 1s. All-in-all, it was highly disappointing. I also hit a big roadblock when it came to the sheer amount of interaction with strangers that the course involves. Whereas I did feel misled about the I.T. side, I guess I have only myself to blame for not guessing that a Psychology course would require a lot of human interaction. For example, needing to collect survey information from up to 25 random people off the street did not bode well with me.

Currently, I'm weighing my options. I'm either going to transfer to Interactive Media Production next academic year, or I'm going to find full-time work and just wing it again for a while. Either way, I'll remain in Bournemouth. No good will come of it if I give up and go home - I need to remain independent, or everything I've done to get this far will be for nothing.

I like to know what you are doing. Isn't it shit how universities advertise a course and it sounds amazing and when you go and start it you realise that it isn't what you expected? It happens so often with these sort of things. Nothing worse. My course is NOTHING like what I was told it would be like and that angers me.

You keep your independence and you go for it! Do whatever the hell makes you happy and don't lose your confidence whatever you do as long as it makes YOU happy that is all that matters!

It seems to be a normal thing. My college courses are nothing like what I expected (for one, I really wish they wouldn't focus so much on Microsoft products in my actual computer courses, but that's where they get a lot of their computer funding from, so...)

Eek, that's bad! Almost like false advertising.

I hope whatever you pick turns out better. ^^
