don't want to have an A-level (high school diploma) in English to find it.

Really? I mean: "Really?!" Like that's not something they teach you in 3rd or 4th grade/year? Wow...just wow.

It's depressing. Actually, it's not even that. It's terrifying. ... The sad thing is that I know several college graduates who have no idea how to use apostrophes correctly. Yet, they've obtained full degrees. Ughhhh...

It is terrifying! How can you have graduated from college and not even know the simple use of apostrophes?!

No offense (because I knew you live in Great Britain), but they also added "muggle" to the freaking dictionary just because the book was so popular. That also made/makes me say "wtf". If we added words for every book that was popular... *shakes head*

It makes about as much sense as all those people who want to go completely to phonics. "That is to much to pay for to people." Without spelling it makes no sense.

Please don't worry about offending me; it bugs the heck out of me, too. Fad words - especially fiction-based ones - just do not belong in an official dictionary. In fact, it ruins the fun for me when they do that. I want my made-up words to stay non-official, thankyouverymuch.

The phonics thing just scares me x.x

I may not be the punctuation nazi you are, but I still think that's insane. Way to go Birmingham! Well on your way to dumbing down a nation!

Aww, come on now n.n; Don't give me a bad name. I'm not a punctuation nazi... and I really can't stand people who are. I wouldn't call someone out for missing an apostrophe in an email or an IM or even in an unofficial letter... but these are local government officials and street names that have been written the same way for hundreds of years! I don't think my indignition is uncalled for... but I'm sorry if you think I'm a 'nazi' about stuff like that :P

JUST. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, if someone honestly has trouble remembering what they mean IT'S THE SPELLING. OF STREET NAMES. You don't need to understand to remember, and they're obvious from context ANYWAY, even if misspelt by someone.

LOGIC. THEY NEED SOME.

You can tell our councils have nothing better to do when they start debating about something like this. XD

Seriously though, the apostrophe isn't confusing. You've just got to learn some basic rules about how they work, what they're used for, and that kind of stuff. Then, things won't be confusing.

Didn't we learn apostrophe rules at school? And at college, in my case. :/

*gives you every apostrophe I just put in this comment*

Someone should go around and paint in apostrophes on all the signs. i would!
