Ladies and Gentlemen listen up please
I don't want to be your hero
(No, I am not open
Parts of me are broken)
Do yourself a favor and save yourself
Don't pick me, pick someone else
(Why'd you want to bother?
Find yourself another)

Darren Hayes is my God. :)

Anyway, I've not been online much 'cause I've been dead. Pretty much just coming home from work and falling asleep. I think I've gone to bed at like 8pm for the past three or four nights... haha, stamina is non-existent.

But seriously, I do actually have (at least somewhat of) a reason for being kinda antsy at the moment. See, uh, I have this thing on my leg... like a little pea-size lump. Doctor's been keeping an eye on it for a few weeks (it's been there for several months but I only reported it when it started itching and bled one time x.o). Aaand, well, he's decided that although he thinks it's unlikely to be cancerous, he still wants to fast-track me to the cancer team and have it removed and dissected, yay. So what that actually means is they're gonna cut the 'suspicious lesion'* out of my leg under local anaesthetic and then stitch it all up :D ... holy crap x.x;;

* Note: Originally typoed that as 'suspicious legion' XD; Yes, the Dark Brotherhood are hiding in my leg, woo! Mystery solved! ... ahem.

So, um, yeah. Terrified. I mean, it's a pretty routine procedure. They do them all the time. It'll be over with really quick. But still... it's taken me 21 years to overcome my fear of needles enough so that I can have injections and blood taken. The thought of having a bit of flesh extracted from my leg and stitched up is just.... euggghhhh.

I doubt it's malignant. It would be highly unlikely in someone of my age, skin-type and TOTAL lack of sun-exposure XD;; So, all I'm worried about really is the damn procedure. Better safe than sorry, eh?

('Scuse me, gonna go off and roll a GIANT Katamari now... bwahahaha)

I hope the procedure goes smoothly, and that the lump isn't cancerous.

Speaking as a student in a related field (biochemistry, but also had carcinogenesis as a subject plus some interest in it), I can say pretty confidently that it's highly unlikely to be skin cancer.

Skin cancer would be highly aggresive and not be shown as just one little lump, though it can still be a non-malignent papill which could become cancerous in the future so removal is a good choice :x
Don't say it;s "highly unlikely" for someone "your age" to get a malignent type of cancer though..
Just look at me, i'm 23 and still under treatment for lymphatic cancer.
A rare type, yes, but just shows you can never be too sure..

For instance, a lot of types of cancer do exhibit small papills or growths on the skin even though the primary cancer is not from the skin. And then you can have gene defects that simply increase risk etc..
But better not go too much into it as it might scare you :)

I have the idea it's a non malignent growth though, not much different from what tends to naturally occur like birth marks or warts.
But even so, never hurts getting it checked.. may end up with a thousand negatives, but if that saves the one that happened to do have somethign bad it may still be worth it. :)

I'm sue you'll be okay though, with the anasthetic you will not feel anythign from the removal itself.
It's mainly the idea and such, so best try to keep your eyes off what they are doing, could ask for a blind fold?

Thank you for the informative post, Helios :)

I've been reading all of your posts about your own situation despite the fact that I haven't really commented - I just didn't know what to say. But I deeply admire you for your strength of character despite all of the nasty things you've been through. You're an inspiration.

You're right, it can happen to anyone at any age... you're the same age as me, after all. So it's important for me to get it checked out, even if the chance of it being malignant is minimal. Better to be safe than sorry, after all.

Good luck! My mom is a dermatologist nurse and says this sort of thing happens a lot, so you're good to not be worried.

Hope it goes smoothly, I'm sure you'll do just fine!

And Katamari makes EVERYONE feel better! <3

Katamari is the best stress relief ever :)

And thanks! It's good to know that these kinda scares happen a lot and that it's rarely anything genuinely bad.

Thanks!

Ack!

Wonder if it's possible to actually get 'worrywarts'. That would certainly explain it O.o;
