There's a meme going around that a lot of my friends list are doing. You know, the "Comment, and I will comment back with a picture of the fictional character that most reminds me of you" meme. So, I did a little experiment. I commented in 5 friends' journals who were doing the meme, using my neutral 'Yoshis' icon, just to see what would happen.

Every single one of them posted back a pic of Tails. Bre even IMed me and said "you won't be surprised".

It got me thinking. It's obviously because 84.5% (60/71) of my icons feature Tails. And 49.3% (35/71) are exclusively of him. And my mood-theme is of Tails. And my LJ is orange. (Dear lord, WHY is my LJ orange? ^^; My favorite color is blue!) Anyway, I was thinking... do icons really have that much influence? Of all the people who know me (or at least, of the diverse selection who I commented on), they ALL associate me with Tails. I'm not complaining! But it's just interesting to me that a simple avatar (or avatars) can have such a profound affect on a person's perception of someone, no matter how long they've known that person and how well they know them.

It made me wonder if I revamped my whole LJ, got rid of all (or at least most) of my Tails icons, perhaps even renamed my journal entirely... and then 6 months down the line, if/when the meme next crops up, I commented in a handful of friends' journals... would I get different results? Maybe more varied, at least?

I think about stuff too much.

Also, I've just now realized that Pogo.com's current prize-giving slider puzzle is rigged to be impossible. If the whole puzzle can be completed, minus two adjacently transposed pieces, then there's no possible solution. GYP! >O

Yeah, icons can have a pretty significant impact. After all, some of us don't know what some of the people on our friends list look like (I've never seen a picture of you, for instance), so many people come to associate what is in our icons with us. I associate you with Tails too, and for this very reason.

Also, people associate us with what we like, and you like Tails, so those who DO know what you look like likely associate you with him anyway for that reason. :)

Well, I like Sonic more than I like Tails, but yeah, all my Tails icons would make people associate me with Tails I guess ^^;

Sonic is my favorite too, but Amy is a close second and there isn't enough Amy love, so I use Amy in my icon. :D

I think so too. About two people have associated me with Black Jack XDDD I guess it's cause we get used to the picture next to the name if you know what I mean? Hee.

^^ Agreed, and your name itself also solidifies your Tails persona.

Though personally I think your personality may be another reason. You're pretty nice to others (i.e. no sign of nastiness), patient, rarely swears (this is in contrast to most SSMB members that do, even while writing the rules), and have similar interests with Tails (technology and biplanes), and although you're more of a Sonic fan, that makes you even more like Tails since he is definitely one too.

Less obvious are some details about your life outside the Internet, which surprisingly, also match Tails to an extent. You were bullied last time, and then met Jei, who becomes a Sonic figure of sort (adding to this is that she has a very Sonical persona herself). And then you said your last name, which I won't mention here, but even sounded like "Prower"!

So yeah, it only makes sense that you become associated with Tails by everyone else. :)

That's very flattering :) I'll agree about Jei being very much a 'Sonical persona'. She's certainly Sonic to me. As for myself... well... unfortunately I'm not sure that I'm as patient and nice as most people would think I am online ^^; I actually have a pretty bad temper and I can be very unreasonable and irrational at times. But thank you anyhow ^_^

Well, you do think too much, and I don't think you should let it bother you as much as you do XD; but you know I'd support you if you wanna do a total LJ revamp. It's no fun to do those memes and be type-cast. n.n

Nooo ;_; You're not supposed to agree with me when I say I think too much XD You're supposed to tell me the things I think about are very interesting. Even if they're not XD;;

The puzzle WAS unsolvable yesterday o.o I tried it lik ten-million times and always wound up with the puzzle complete except for two pieces next to each other the wrong way around. That renders the puzzle impossible, because it essentially parallels Noyes Chapman's Fifteen Puzzle (see the paragraph halfway down the page about it).

However, I solved it very easily today (and got my 200 tokens) ^^; I think maybe the puzzle designer accidentally rendered it unsolveable yesterday and fixed it by today.
