Update n' stuff
Mar. 30th, 2007 11:45 pmThanks again everyone who wished me luck :)
I didn't get accepted. The course requirements are more traditionally artistic than I can present, aka my portfolio wasn't complete enough. In short, the interviewer barely let me sit down before deciding to reject me on the basis of portfolio-lackage.
I was half-expecting it. That didn't stop me from crumpling as soon as we got back to the car, and my mom put it well when she said "You must feel annihilated". I think that's exactly how I felt. Annihilated.
But I'm okay. There'll be no emo from me. I'm rather glad I visited the school. It's not the right place for me. I might explain in more detail over the weekend, but I wouldn't have been happy there even if I'd got a place. So, at the end of the day, I think the Japanese daily philosophy for these things comes into play: "Sho ga nai". Or, "it can't be helped". That's life.
I'm still looking at Staffordshire with some interest. Strangely enough, when I got back from Hertfordshire, there was a single letter on the doormat and it was from Staffordshire. They've already offered me a conditional placement, but I'd like to go see them. I'll arrange that on Monday.
Also, The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare (which is in fact THE largest dedicated helicopter museum in the world) is starting a training school within six months for helicopter engineers, using a £400,000 Heritage Lottery Grant they just received. I'm going to look into that. Apparently helicopter engineers are in high demand and are practically guaranteed jobs. Heh, you know me and aircraft... I keep getting drawn back towards aviation in one form or another. I think working with helicopters would be fantastic. But Uni first, if possible. Keep all doors open.
The journey to Hertfordshire took three and a half hours. The journey back (due to the M25 being its usual glorious rush-hour self) took nearly SIX hours. Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I want to go to bed.
