~All in all...~
Sep. 30th, 2006 05:52 pmStill working on that long update ^^;
I have a confession to make. I'm worried about turning 22 in a couple of weeks. I have this feeling of sickening and impending doom as I think about becoming another year older. I'm worried about something quite silly, but it's seriously concerning me - I fear that soon I'll be too old for the fandom. Let me get one things straight - I'm not worried about outgrowing the fandom. It won't happen; I'm perpetually a child at heart, that won't change. What worries me is whether the fandom will continue to accept me as I head into my mid-twenties. I know a lot of you are similar age to me, but I am at the older end - I don't think many of you are 22 or older. What frightens me is the thought that soon there'll be no one of my age left in the fandom. When people find out my age, they'll think I'm weird or they won't want to involve me because of the age difference. It seems stupid. I just don't want to be a lone 'adult' amongst kids, always aware of being older than them, wondering what they think of that 20-something-year-old guy who's still drawing fanart and RPing and obsessing over teen and preteen cartoon/game characters x.x I don't want to be oooold. I know, I know, 22 isn't old. But it's older than most in the fandom, and time won't stop. Every day I'm older. I want to stop, to go back and be 14 again! Heck, I'd settle for 17... I hate that my teen years are over, and I hate that I'm heading into my twenties... 22 already. No longer a 'kid'. I wanna be a kid again. Argh. Someone please just tell me I'm still young and that the Sonic fandom won't kick me out for progressing into my twenties... ^^;;
Something else on my mind has to do with something entirely different. It's becoming increasingly obvious that my eyesight is AWFUL. My VERY short vision is fine (reading a book, using the computer, playing a handheld videogame), but I need glasses for anything beyond arm's length. I can't read the titles of books just a couple meters across the room from me. I can't watch TV or play on my GameCube without glasses. My eyesight is definitely getting worse x.x I think it's time I had another check-up (it's not surprising my eyesight is so bad with the hours I spend on my computer @_@), but more than that... I've come to the conclusion that I should probably be wearing my glasses all the time. The world is a blur without them. The thing is, I hate how I look with glasses. I think I kinda look like Harry Potter, and that bothers me. I look geeky, that's for sure. So, I've been holding off, although I do wear my glasses most of the time at college. Perhaps I'll take a picture of me with my glasses on and you can all tell me if I look ridiculous or not :P
Anyway, that's it for now ^^; Sorry for being such a worrywart lately.

Date: 2006-09-30 06:35 pm (UTC)But...it's the price to pay for working eyes. Contacts aren't out of the question either - it's really not as bad as most people who have never tried contacts make it out to be. Ya don't feel much at all putting them in or taking them out ^^; If you take a picture, I'll have to take one too. Gah, I hate my glasses :P
As for the age thing...I'm not going to lie - you've got reason to worry in that regard. You don't want to become the loner in a fandom. Don't want to be in a position where there's cliques and you're not in any of them. It sounds to me like you think you'll be the only 'old' one in the fandom, though - thinking that most people walk into a fandom at age x and leave at x+5. And many do, that's no surprise. Some won't, though. Can prolly look at someone lie me or Sully as an example. Yeah, we're not quite as old as you - I'm a bit over a year younger. Still, we're in that same age-area. I think it's safe to say that we're not as into the fandom as we used to be. We're still connected to it, though. It's not quite the same as having people who are your age and completely into it, but it's better than being the only one, talking only with people ten years younger than you.
There'll always be people in the Sonic fandom that'll accept you. It's one of the nice things about this particular one - there'll be jerks, but there's plenty of nice people who see past things like this and can see themselves in your position in a certain amount of years, wondering the same thing you're wondering now. It's circle of life :P (Sorry, watched Lion King last night)

Date: 2006-09-30 06:40 pm (UTC)I don't think you will get a problem that easily, ofcourse some people might think your old but they probably won't make much of a problem over it.
Some people are way up to their 40's/50's and still love cartoons or plushies, and I can;t say they have a problem being accepted.
Why would it be any different with tails fans?

Date: 2006-09-30 07:11 pm (UTC)As for glasses-
... -trying to imagine a guy with a Kojiro-ish wisp looking like Harry Potter with taped up glasses, thin and having a very frail frame- -cracks up- ... ^^;; Don't worry, Jai! Glasses make you look smart. -wears them- Especially if you push them up or move 'em around when explaining something like Masato. ..... Okay, so that makes you look arrogant- but it's FUN. ^^;;

Date: 2006-09-30 07:35 pm (UTC)At heart I guess i'll never grow up anyway, but time keeps flowing and you can't stand still forever.
Ofcourse besides study and having a decent job/career afterwrds, nothing can stop us from being childish at home.
I still have my plushies, I still am insane as always, yet i'm also doing serious research in a lab.
Growing up doesn't have to be so bad, everyone fears becoming a "boring" serious adult when growing up and that's normal.
But basicly you are as old as you feel, and I still feel like a child at heart so I still continue to do all kinds of "childish" things.
And can't say staying a child at heart is a bad thing either :)
I just see it as enjoying life more then when I would becoem serious and such ;p
Age doesn't matter in the long run, just do what you like to do. Don;t let anything stop you there ^^

Date: 2006-09-30 10:51 pm (UTC)And maybe try those contacts, they're my saving grace. (I haven't tried the colored ones, but I'd like to...) My vision is such that I have to almost touch my nose to the monitor to see the words on the screen when I'm not wearing corrective lenses (like, 600/20 vision or something like that). So I can feel your pain on this. But, I'm pretty sure that you'll enjoy being able to see a lot more than not. And honestly, I think people look more dignified in glasses, anyway. Besides, who DOESN'T want to look like Daniel Radcliffe? ;)
