Psychosis Pt. 2
Sep. 13th, 2010 12:14 pmI was lying on the couch last night just chilling out when I decided it was stupid fighting with Miles. He's in my head whether I like it or not, and making things worse between us isn't going to help anyone. I remembered that he kinda enjoyed playing that Tetris puzzle board game with Jei that one time, so on a whim I randomly challenged him to a quick game of noughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe to you foreign types). He sorta just shrugged and agreed. I had a pen but no paper to hand and I was lazy so we just used my arm as a canvass, lol. Of course, it's impossible to win or lose a game of noughts and crosses if you start out right. So we played about five games (my left arm is a patchwork of grids x.o), and then somehow he got sloppy and lost one, ahahaha. It was like almost 4am though and I fell asleep on the couch about 10 seconds later.
Anyway, it got me to thinking, because a few days ago Miles was talking with Jei over a cappuccino in a coffee shop in town (ooh, lah-dee-dah!) and mentioned that he wanted to get hold of a chess set. That came about, I think, because he was making some sort of life/chess analogy and Jei said she imagined he would enjoy this version of chess we saw where all the pieces are shot-glasses and you drink the pieces you capture XD But he said that chess was something he'd rather not be inebriated for, and that he would actually love to have someone to play against. Jei knows how to play chess, so she said that she'd happily play against him, which would be cool. But surprisingly he also hinted at maybe playing against me. That would be pretty interesting. I'm no stranger to chess - my father is something of a chess pro. He has all the strategy books of famous games, watched all the live Deep Blue tournament on TV, and played almost daily against his friend Eric back when we lived in Sutton. He also routinely challenged and trounced any friends who came over to my house XD And he had this really gorgeous big marble and glass chess set which sadly got lost when we moved house :\ But anyway! Now I really kinda wanna get a chess set and challenge Miles to a game.
I wanna fix things so that we're okay coexisting. It seemed to be getting that way before. I don't expect him to ever LIKE me, but fuck, if we have even a few things in common it's a start, right? He likes chess, I like chess. Profit?
Edit: oh, oh! I just got a couple days' work staffing a convention at the BIC (: Jei's gonna work two days too, and we'll get about £300 in total. Just basic meet-and-greet/card-scanning stuff but hey, it's something. Perhaps today is a fortuitous day!
I just looked on Argos for a chess board. Their selection is crap. They're all either electronic or computer game versions or special edition crap. I just want a nice sturdy traditional chess set. Too much to ask? :P
