I had an interesting conversation with my mum (via emails) today after I told her about the absinthe I got. She says she's never tried it and was quite amused at my 'intricate' knowledge (seriously, I just wiki'd the stuff a week or so ago, that's all :P). She also was under the false impression that absinthe is a hallucinogen, which it is not. It may be different from other alcoholic drinks, but you can't 'trip' on it or anything crazy like that (sadly).

I decided that I need to read more Wilde. I'm gonna try to get my hands on The Picture of Dorian Gray to read after I'm done with the two books I got from her for my birthday. The two books being "'Tis" and "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt. The second and third part of his memoirs, following on from the amazing "Angela's Ashes" (an amazing read, by the way, especially if you have any interest in war-time Ireland and the struggle of poverty that many faced, and still face).

I also decided that I probably won't drink anything tonight. I never drink in huge quantities, but I don't want to get hooked on it, either. Besides, make it last, eh?

I was thinking today that I really should work on Sontails.com. I think the main thing keeping me from it is the fact that it's pretty much useless as anything other than a collection of my own (and Jei's) thoughts and ideas on a fandom that really is quite small. So I do query if there would be much point in doing it all up the way I envisioned. For right now, the webspace serves perfectly as an online 'hammerspace' of sorts for bunging anything that I want to host (mostly pictures/photos and the occasional mp3).

Today and had beans on toast and canned fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner combined. One meal, because I slept until 6pm. Because I went to bed at 6am. Sheesh, I need to sort out my sleeping pattern, stat! And do some food shopping. Yeah.

Three days until Jei comes home. I'm counting down the days excitedly. I've missed her so much. Can't wait to start planning our Thanksgiving meal. Yeah it's two weeks' off yet, but we have to make sure it's perfect. On our budget, roast dinners with all the trimmings don't come often. Mmm... chicken, roast potatoes and/or mash, yorkies, stuffing and/or stuffing balls, cranberry jelly, bread sauce, thick gravy, and mixed veg... followed by apple and cinnamon crisp with custard... I can almost taste it... *salivates*

Haa... Jei sent me a photo of (the head of) one of the Ood from Doctor Who :D Man, it's so awesome that she's working in the same studio where they make all that cool stuff! They also have stuff from batman Begins, such as the Scarecrow's costume. And plenty of Cybermen, naturally. Although she mentioned a distinct lack of Daleks D:

Ohh! We also started a new game of Animal Crossing together. Bob is in our town (aptly named Knothole), yay! Also Maple, Curly and Rocco, with Ruby just moved in. Almost paid off my mortgage and got a few things done in-game already. I forgot how addictive it can be! *Stops to tinker s'more* ... oh, Monique moved in! More kitties, yay!

Okay, gonna juice now. Animal Crossing is calling! <3 Pttthhhhbt!

I've grown to like SonTails again, after being burnt out on the pairing for a while.

To clarify...On the one hand, there are certain things that I personally don't want the relationship to be. I don't want Sonic and Tails to be in love with each other for no reason...I want context, a reason why a brotherly friendship would evolve into something more intimate and physical. And I don't want their closeness to restrict either of them from having close interaction with other characters. My stance is that while it's reasonable for a character to stick with one lover, I don't mind that character having more than one best friend. Especially since I grew up with the notion that Sonic and Tails were as close to Sally as they were to each other.

On the other hand, the problems I just mentioned are ones that I prefer not to see in any fictional relationship. So, in light of that, while the things I might potentially dislike about SonTails are things that I'd shy away from in any pairing, the things I'd potentially like about SonTails are fairly unique. I never really gave much thought about it until recently, but I have had a repressed desire since childhood to view myself as Tails, running alongside Sonic, so I can relate somewhat to the notion of having a big brother figure one wants to be around all the time, and for those feelings to eventually develop into something erotic/romantic.

I hope that made sense, I know I tend to ramble sometimes, heh.

Made perfect sense, Blazey, and something I can agree on completely! Jei and I are always discussing the other inhabitants of Knothole and how they fit into Sonic and Tails' everyday lives. While our 'canon' for Knothole and everyone in it is kinda distinct from any 'real' (i.e. officially published) canon, it does involve everyone.

Hey, let me give you a brief run-down of how I see each of the characters' relationship to Sonic and Tails, so you can get a better idea:

Sally: The closest to the two of them. While she was always an 'aunt' figure to Tails, she sort of played a mentor role with Sonic too. She's always had a soft spot for both of them, but tended to be a little 'harsher' with Sonic because she felt he needed it. While coming across at times as a nag, she actually admires Sonic and at one time had strong feelings for him. She adores Tails and trusts Sonic to not let any harm come to him. She considers them both to be very close friends, although Bunnie is possibly her closest friend. Both Sonic and Tails really care for Sally too, despite the occasional opinion clashes, and appreciate everything she does for them and for the Freedom Fighters as a whole.

Knuckles: Has a love/hate relationship with Sonic and Tails. He puts up with Tails better than Sonic, although he finds Tails' talkative nature to be somewhat perturbing. Is quick to start an argument or even a fist-fight with Sonic, he actually begrudgingly considers him not only an ally but a good friend, and even a brother of sorts. He would NEVER say this, of course. He's usually up on the Floating Island anyway, so doesn't spend much time hanging out with them, but counts them and Sally among his very short list of trusted acquaintances.

Amy: While she may at times be the bane of their existence, Sonic and Tails consider her to be a friend and enjoy hanging out with her when she's not in full romantic aggressor mode. Tails particularly enjoys hanging out with her when Sonic is not around, as she's actually a very loyal friend and good listener when she's not being 'crazy'. She definitely cares about Sonic and Tails as friends beneath her lovestruck Sonic-stalking exterior.

Bunnie: Almost like surrogate aunt number 2, except she manages to be less patronising and more accepting than Sally. She has a soft spot for Sonic, calling him 'Sugar-hog', and always does her best to help. She enjoys being included, and is always ready to help out if she can. She's still somewhat self-conscious about her limbs, but appreciates how Sonic and Tails have always accepted her. She tends to be the optimistic team pep-talker, always open to listen if anyone has a problem. She enjoys making Sonic and Tails laugh.

Antoine: Outwardly detests Sonic with a snobbish arrogance, which is returned with playful taunting from Sonic (and occasionally Tails if they're tag-teaming him). However, at core, they are friends, and Sonic and Tails know that Antoine can be a formidable opponent if need be. While they argue a lot, Sonic and Antoine will have each other's backs in battle in an instant if one or the other is in danger. Twan is often the 'comic relief' when things are tough, and Bunnie is always scolding Sonic and Tails for teasing her husband.

Rotor: Although he's fairly quiet and unassuming, he's not unnoticed by Sonic and Tails. He keeps to himself a lot but is always friendly and welcoming when Sonic and/or Tails drop by. He's a comic book enthusiast and a talented craftsman. Whereas Tails' passion is in mechanics, Rotor works with more humble materials, such as woodwork. He and Tails often have lots to talk about when their respective crafts meet.

I think that's everyone? ^^; Hope that helped you to see them how I do, so you're not thinking that I pair Sonic and Tails off without any regard to the other people in their lives. :)

(So much for brief! ^^;;)

Heh, thanks Tails, it may have been long, but it was also very concise and informative.^^

In Knux's case, it seems like your vision of him is as a person who is very caring deep down, but has a lot of trust issues due to being isolated for so long. Makes me wonder how much of it is because he wants it that way, and how much of it is because he felt it had to be that way, heh.

Sally sounds like the kind of person who had a hard time with responsibility. Like, as if she always meant well, but didn't always realize that because you need to be authoritative, it doesn't mean you should sound like you're talking down to someone. I guess she may have not even realized she was doing it, though, heh.

Bunnie sounds about like I've always seen her. Cheerful and optimistic, and rarely truly angry, but somewhat insecure about how others see her.

Same with Ant. Awkward and kind of a goofball on a surface, but a nice guy with a sensible head on his shoulders underneath.

I never saw Rote as a comic book geek, but it certainly fits how laid back, slightly reserved, and observative he seems to be.^^

Oh, and Amy! You pretty much summed up again why I look up to her.^^ She certainly has some obsessive, self-centered desires, ones that she's not afraid to voice, but at the same time, she can be a true, loyal friend as well. I guess she's sort of like Twan in a way...A wacky loon on the surface, but more than she appears.

And yeah, I feel that it helped me see things from your perspective more, Tails.^^ From the sound of it, everyone you described, along with Sonic and Tails, are basically a bunch of quirky, somewhat emotionally confused young people who find some comfort in people who have similar quirks that they do.

I do the same thing I do with most MMORPGs to Animal Crossing - I play really hard for like a month or two then abruptly get bored and stop doing anything for a few months.

Yeah, that's pretty much the story for me, too. With ANY game, really ^^; Play it solidly for days or weeks, then blah. Bored now. >_>;

Right not entirely on topic here, but...
please don't be disenchanted I assure you Absinthe is hallucinogenic; if its fairly decent, and especially if produced before the expansion of the EU, your absinthe may well contain appreciable levels of Thujone.

You're mother is not misinformed.

On the route in many plants to other terpenes (turps, menthol, aromatic oils), Thujone is often present.

The turpy smell, like that of ragwort (that'll kill you if you eat it though, painfully...), is often accompanied by levels of the hallucinogen.

As an aside, it's more common than you might think to hallucinate off terpenes. Would it surprise that van Gogh was partial to his turpes? Indeed, a tree from which turps can be refined, a member of the cupress. (cypress) genus, Thuja was planted (by his brother?) over his grave. This tree also happens to be a source of Thujone.

Effects of thujone are correlated well with neuronal activity linked to GABAceptor systems. Neat, it causes fits at high doses. But similarly to the combination of benzos with alcohol (which is a sure-fire way to end up in the ER, but some people enjoy), two xenobiotics that act synergistically (and for which effects are not linearly related to dosage), alcohol and thujone act together to cause hallucinations of the true type (ie., perceptions devoid of external influence; which contrasts to the misperceptions that originate from sensation of many typical psychodelics)
Thujone, and thus absinthe are deliriants, true hallucinogens.

But you probably didn't need me to tell you that ;)

Carry on.

I'm pretty sure that the amounts of thujone present in absinthe that is legally sold in the EU is not sufficient to be classed as a hallucinogen. However, I know that it is still a topic of debate.

"
The effects of absinthe

Absinthe’s longest lasting myth contributed to its allure and vilification.

For nearly two centuries, absinthe was believed to cause hallucinations. During the late 19th century, these stories were embraced by Bohemian artists, particularly Vincent Van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Today, it’s common knowledge that absinthe does not cause hallucinations.

One of the drink’s chemicals, thujone, can produce muscle spasms in large doses, but there is no evidence it causes hallucinations.

Many theorize that 19th century reports of hallucinogenic effects of absinthe may have been due to poisonous chemicals being added to cheaper versions of the drink to give it a more vivid green color.

The debate over whether absinthe produces enhanced effects on the mind have not been conclusive, however, and enthusiasts continue to describe absinthe’s effects as “mind-opening” and “clear-headed.”

I need to work on my sites, myself... all of them are just fanlistings so far (or dead sites I want to revive) that are empty save for... the layout ;; I'd love to look into Sontails.com though! I'm not an active fan or anything of the pairing, but I can see how it's viable. Hahaha. My friends hate it though and I can also see why.
