Why Jai shouldn't cook
Feb. 11th, 2009 10:34 amLast night Jei and I were cooking liver and potatoes. Jei had just taken the liver off the stove after frying it, and I was taking the potatoes out of the oven using a dishcloth (this is important) to safely pull the hot baking tray out. After I pulled the tray out, I cast the dishcloth to one side so I could focus on dishing up the potatoes. After a few moments of transferring said potatoes from oven to dish I noticed a vague burning smell. At first I thought maybe I had burnt the potatoes, but they looked fine... and the smell was getting stronger. Definitely smoke. I glanced to the side and wailed as I saw thick smoke billowing up from the dishcloth, which I had oh-so-nonchalantly discarded... right on top of the still red-hot stove! By the time Jei responded to my cries of panic, I had managed to grab the thing and fling it into the sink before it could burst into flames. We then spent the next five minutes or so running cold water on the smoking and charred dishcloth remains, opening all the windows, and waving our arms around frantically to attempt to dispel the smoke before it would set off the fire alarm and force us to endure the embarrassment of being the cause of 500 students having to evacuate the building ^^; Thankfully, that didn't happen. But it sure gave me a fright! Kids, be careful when you cook and don't be like me.
