'Kay, I'm just gonna out with this now, because... well... I'll explain in a minute.

I identify as Otakin. Fictionkin. Mediakin. Whatever-the-heck you wanna call it.

Okay, there. Out of the way.

The reason I'm bringing this up is because it's come to my attention that some people on my friendslist may still be of the mindset that all Fic'kin are fail and should be locked up in mental institutes. And this saddens me, because I think the majority of people on my FL probably don't think I'm fail and need mental help. Or at least, didn't until my revelation back there.

Fact is, I've never hidden it from anyone. My journal is just... my journal. In my user info it states quite clearly that I'm 'Fictionkin'. And the communities I belong to are listed right there; no attempts to hide them behind sock-puppets. It's not some dirty hidden secret. It's just... part of who I am. I don't feel the need to talk about it much. Although I do have a filter for Fic'kin stuff... I've used it maybe three times EVER in all the years I've been on LJ. My life isn't different from anyone else's just because I have unusual beliefs.

Do I sometimes wish I could write more openly about Fic'kin stuff? Sure... just occasionally. But not enough to warrant making a separate LJ for it, and not important enough to risk alienating my friends. I'm happy with the balance I have.

But I'm making this post on the off-chance that anyone feels like I'm a mental headcase who needs locking up and therefore wishes to take me off their friends list. I won't be offended. I'll return the favor and we can all just get on with our lives.

For anyone else - I'll try to get those photos of my new gear up very very soon :) Ciao for now!

No way should they be any different or locked-up! Everyone has their own different views or beliefs, and I sometimes find it sickening when other people insult them for it. I say a great big "so what?" at the fact you admit to being these things. It really doesn't matter to me. :) In fact, I'd say kudos for not hiding it when most people frown upon it. Good on you, Jai! ^^ I really respect you for that.

Thanks, Jade :) I figured you wouldn't hold it against me. Means a lot.

While I don't necessarily understand the concept personally, I feel that that's a ridiculous reason to stop being friends with someone.

You're still awesome, JaiJai. ;)

I don't need people to understand as long as they don't judge me for it. Thanks so much :)

The less attention you pay for it - the less you're worried about it =)

You're very brave.
That said, after reading said journal entry.. if they can't accept you for who you are, they were never your friend to begin with.

You obviously know me better, and that's good, because I don't hold people's beliefs and opinions against them, it just isn't fair, really. I've been judged a lot on trivial things in my life and I know how hard it is. I lost friends and got bulled by them just because of my "problem". People like that aren't worth anyone's time.

Thought the drama about it would be over and done with by now, guess not then.. :/

Just keep going the way you are, if they can't accept it..then why friend you?

No need to have to bring it up again, thought the last post about it was good enough, and people who can't leave it be just need to clear off :)

That last part is exactly why I'm making this post :)

I'm bringing it up because there are some people on my FL who don't know. And I'd rather just find out once and for all if all my friends are cool with me as a whole person. :)

Brave words.

What's important to you emotionally shouldn't be a matter of ridicule from others, or a matter of shame from you. Personally, and as someone who's strongly enough drawn to fiction and has been influenced positively enough by it that I at least strongly empathise with if not identify outright with the fic'kin concept-- I've definitely had flicker-periods of being strongly in the mindset of various people before, and fictional characters have been important to me since I was super-young-- I think connections to fiction are beautiful, positive, enriching things for those of us who have them. I've learnt, discovered and experienced so much that I wouldn't have otherwise if I'd been too afraid to let myself care about these things, been too cowed by the crowd who argue that caring about anything is a waste of space: Protip: humanity learning to care instead of put up an apathetic mask, learning to love instead of hate, include instead of divide, is about the only way our world is ever going to change for the better. I'm confident it'll happen one day, and those who're unashamed to care are the pioneers, IMHO.

It's not some dirty hidden secret. It's just... part of who I am. I don't feel the need to talk about it much.

Agreed... I'm pretty much quiet about it in my journal, these days. It's not something I feel the need to go around making statements about, even if it's always nice to see others writing about what fiction means to them.

By the way, voted on the pic in your last post; just never got around to letting you know, sorry. Best of luck to you guys. :)

What an inspiring entry ^^ And I agree with one of the above posters, if a 'friend' can't accept you for who you are, they're just not worth your time. I don't even know you well, but you seem like a great person, and I support your beliefs whatever they may be :)

There are bigger problems in the world than people who simply think they're reincarnations/related in some way to fictional characters, and people who are actually deserving of being locked up.

Some people have way too much free time on their hands.

Otakin...a little help here please? (sorry...)

However, in regards to the whole "being you" deal, if they don't like you for whatever it is you are or like to do, you shouldn't bother with them, simple as. If someone asked me to add them on LJ so they could see my entries, and they got on my case because I'm a furry then I would just remove them from the list, end of.

Hope you haven't been getting any shit over this though :/

I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said (in other words, you're brave and your friends should accept you).

I have no problem with anyone who identifies as fictionkin (or whichever word applies in their case) and most of the time I don't even give it any thought.

Also: thumbs way up for your choice of music. :D

Otakin... well, people who believe they 'were' a fictional character in a past life or that they are somehow that character now.

Thanks for the support, anyhow, Leon ^^ ::Hugs::
