flyboy_fox: (happy :))
I realised I kinda stopped using my LJ for a while XD It seems that either I'm posting every day, or I'm leaving weeks in between... but after the last post, I realised I actually do have stuff to say :P

I think that one of the things that bugged me most about the degree of fanaticism in my town/village over the Royal Wedding is the double standard. I was walking to the car boot sale today, walking by all the houses with their Union Jack flags up in the window and fences and gates adorned with red, white and blue banners when it hit me. Not ONE of these people did ANYTHING visible on Saint George's Day. It went by without even a peep. The day of our patron saint went by without anyone saying a word, and yet the entire town and all its surrounding villages erupts into patriotic spirit for the Royal Wedding? There's something kind of wrong about that.

Anyway, I went to the village car boot sale today with my mum. It was actually pretty busy, despite the overcast start to the day, and then the sun came out and it was really nice. I picked up eight CDs (for £7 in total) and Ken Follett's 'The Pillars of the Earth'. My mum saw the TV series and said it was great, and the book looked good, so yay for more reading material! We also picked up six really nice classic bound editions from Charles Dickens' complete collection for £5 the lot. Score! I'm ashamed to admit I've never actually read him... *Slinks away*

... So anyway, summer is getting closer, and with it the cruise (eee!) and the possible chance to meet my half-sister and half-brother for the first time, if we can find time for a road trip down to Florida. Getting my sister to sponsor me for US citizenship is still my best bet, and amazingly my dad is back in contact with them, so fingers crossed! The biggest barrier is language... as in I don't speak much Spanish and she doesn't speak much English. My dad is bilingual, but useless at getting anything done, so this is gonna take some working... I'm both nervous and excited about the prospect, but also a little sad about leaving my mum behind all by herself if this does work out. She really has no other family close by. Ideally, I want her to be able to retire in Florida with us, but we'll all need a lot more money for that to work.

All in all, I'm good. Missing Jei, since she's back in Bournemouth now, and I won't see her again until the end of May (for a couple of days) and then until the middle of June. But I'm getting by.

Miles is still very much around, but he does his own thing, has his own email, journal and forum identities (he doesn't go on the same type of forums that I go on, naturally, so it's a good way for him to make his own acquaintances). He's become so much his own person that I don't really think of him as being the anti-me any more, or even consider his supposed 'fictional' source unless it's relevant. I hear that Scourge is doing okay over with Jei but that he's a bit stifled and pissed off by all the doll-making and monkey-sculpting and seamstressing that Jei has been doing to tie up her end of year projects. It doesn't give him much time to 'front' and do his own thing, so I feel a little bad for him, but it'll all be done soon. Both Scourge and Miles are looking forward to the cruise as much as Jei and I, I think. Miles has it in mind that he's going to spend hours lounging on the promenade deck or the sun deck by the pool with an iced coffee or a decadent and strongly alcoholic cocktail of some sort while he reads as many good books as he can get his hands on. Scourge I think is looking forward to the pub and the nightclub, maybe the excursions too? He does like to get out. Jei and I are just hyped about EVERYTHING. It just looks like it's going to be amazing, and I don't even have pay a penny for it because her parents are paying as Jei's graduation gift. But yeah, Scourge and Miles are around, and it's a lot more casual and natural now (Miles even likes to help my mum complete her cryptic crosswords, heh).

So, life is good I guess. I've been posting less lately because I kinda got out of the habit while Miles was busy setting stuff up, but now I'm back (: ♥
